In addition to compelling CLE, social events and networking opportunities, the 2023 TBA Annual Convention will host several meetings of TBA governing bodies. On June 14, the House of Delegates will meet in the afternoon, while new section chairs will meet to make plans for the 2023-2024 bar year. On June 16, the TBA Board of Governors and its Executive Committee will meet after the Lawyers Luncheon. Later that afternoon, the Tennessee Legal Community Foundation (TLCF) and TBA Member Insurance Solutions (TBAMS) will hold their respective board meetings. Wrapping up the day, the Young Lawyers Division's (YLD) Long Range Planning Committee will meet and all young lawyer members of the TBA will gather for the division's annual meeting. On Saturday, members of  the YLD Board will meet for committee breakouts and summer board meeting. Check out the full convention schedule and make plans to be in Knoxville June 14-17!

The TBA has announced that "Full Court Press" by Bill Haltom and Amanda Swanson will be the fourth quarter book for its book club. "Full Court Press" is a valuable addition to research on how individual initiative can bring about social change in Tennessee, in the sporting world and as a part of the broader struggle for women’s equality. Written in a lighthearted and inspiring style, this book is a must-read for anyone fascinated by the many achievements of Pat Summitt, Tennessee women’s basketball or women’s sports history in general. Start reading now and make plans to hear the authors at the TBA Convention June 15 in Knoxville.

The deadline has been extended to April 21 for nominations for the Fourth Estate Award: Honoring Courageous Reporting on Justice and the Law. The Tennessee Bar Association this year will again honor the good works of Tennessee journalists through this award, which includes a $250 honorarium for the winner. The TBA strongly supports our freedom of expression under the First Amendment, as exercised by lawyers on behalf of their clients and by journalists on behalf of the public, and it particularly wants to recognize and encourage journalists who promote public understanding of the rule of law and our system of justice through vigorous exercise of their First Amendment rights. Prior winners include the WSMV News 4 I-Team, Steven Hale of the Nashville Scene, the Bristol Herald Courier, Marc Perrusquia’s work for the Daily Memphian and the Institute for Public Service Reporting, and the Kingsport Times News. The deadlines for nominating individuals for three of the TBA’s annual awards have been extended due to technical issues with the online forms. Nominations for the Claudia Jack Award and Justice Frank F. Drowota III Outstanding Judicial Service Award are now due on Wednesday. Nominations for the Judge Pamela L. Reeves Tennessee Professionalism Award are due on Friday.

Registration is now open for the TBA Annual Convention in Knoxville, June 14-17. Centered around the theme of "Where Law & Sports Come Together," this year's event will feature dynamic programming from UT men's basketball coach Rick Barnes, Women's Athletic Director Emeritus Joan Cronan and others. In addition, social events will include an evening at Neyland Stadium, featuring live music, food, refreshments and plenty of time to catch up with colleagues old and new. The Tennessee Bar Association and Tennessee’s American Inns of Court are now accepting nominations for the 2023 Judge Pamela L. Reeves Tennessee Professionalism Award. The annual award is presented to a lawyer or judge whose life and practice display sterling character and unquestioned integrity, coupled with ongoing dedication to the highest standards of the rule of law and the highest standards of the legal profession in Tennessee. The award will be presented to a lawyer or judge residing in the grand division of the state where the TBA's Annual Convention is held (this year, the East Grand Division). Nominees must be alive when their nomination is submitted but need not be an active member of an American Inn of Court or the TBA. The award will be presented at the TBA's Annual Convention, which will be held in Knoxville June 14-16. The deadline for submitting nominations is April 5.
