  • Administrative Law Section

    This section provides members with opportunities to exchange information with other practitioners in the field, which focuses on laws governing the administration and regulation of government agencies.

  • Adoption Law

    Adoption Law Section

    The Adoption Law Section focuses on promoting the study and understanding of the laws, regulations and court decisions related to adoption law practice. The section also focuses on legislative efforts to improve the adoption process for practitioners as well as families.

  • Animal Law

    Animal Law Section

    This section focuses on promoting the study and understanding of laws, regulations and court decisions dealing with legal issues involving animals.

  • Appellate Practice Section

    This section provides members the opportunity to come together for the purposes of exchanging information and to provide CLE on appellate practice issues.
     

  • Bankruptcy

    Bankruptcy Law Section

    The Bankruptcy Law Section focuses on issues involving bankruptcy law. The section and executive committee develops projects for its members ranging from legislative proposals to their annual two-day Bankruptcy Forum and associated social events.

  • Business Law

    Business Law Section

    The Business Law Section furthers the knowledge of its members in the law of the Uniform Commercial Code, banking law, corporate law, partnership law, matters of debtor and creditor relations, and litigation practice related to such law.

  • Communications Law Section

    The Communications Law Section is a resource for lawyers interested in legal issues faced by users, providers and regulators of print, telecommunications, broadcast and web-based services, facilities and equipment.

  • Construction Law

    Construction Law Section

    This section furthers the knowledge of its members in construction law and provides advocacy on construction law changes in the legislature and the courts.

  • Corporate Counsel Section

    The Corporate Counsel Section provides resources for lawyers practicing as in-house counsel and opportunities to share views and develop relationships with colleagues.
     

  • Creditors Practice

    Creditors Practice Section

    This section caters to attorneys in the creditors practice field and provides members the opportunity to exchange information and receive timely educational and legislative updates.

     

  • Criminal Justice Section

    This section serves all elements of the Tennessee criminal justice system including state, federal and municipal prosecutors, judges with criminal jurisdiction, state and federal public defenders, and lawyers in private practice.

  • Disability Law Section

    This section serves as a resource for Tennessee lawyers practicing in the area of disability rights or who have an interest in building a disability rights practice. The section offers continuing legal education, news updates and a forum for advancing disability rights.

  • Dispute Resolution

    Dispute Resolution Section

    This section provides members the opportunity to exchange information with other practitioners regarding alternate dispute resolution, including an annual CLE seminar and co-sponsored CLE programs with other sections that use mediation in their practice.

  • Elder Law

    Elder Law Section

    This section provides education to its members, makes recommendations for improving the law, and undertakes projects to increase the understanding of senior citizens, their families and the public concerning legal issues affecting the elderly.

  • Entertainment and Sports Law

    Entertainment & Sports Law Section

    This section was created in recognition of the increasing number of practitioners in entertainment and sports law. The section presents an annual CLE program and helps members stay up to date on trends and activities in this specialized area of practice.

  • Environmental Law

    Environmental Law Section

    This section informs its members of local, state and national environmental laws and regulations and coordinates annual substantive continuing legal education programs on environmental law and produces a quarterly newsletter. The section sponsors the Jon E. Hastings Memorial Award environmental writing competition for law students.

  • Estate Planning

    Estate Planning & Probate Section

    This section offers resources and the latest in legal trends in the area of estate planning.

  • Family Law

    Family Law Section

    This section brings together practitioners who share a common interest in family law updates and legislative initiatives. In addition, the section provides educational programming and resources such as the Alimony Bench Book.

  • Federal Law Practice

    Federal Practice Section

    This section serves the needs of Tennessee attorneys whose primary practice is in the federal courts. Its purpose is to further the knowledge of its members and to act as an advocate for those attorneys.
     

  • General Solo

    General, Solo & Small Firm Section

    The General, Solo & Small Firm Section provides its members with programs designed to further the professionalism, prestige and effectiveness of the general practitioner.

  • Health Law

    Health Law Section

    This section works to further the knowledge of its members in federal, state and local health care law. It sponsors the nationally recognized two-day Health Law Forum, as well as a primer course for attorneys new to health law practice.

  • Immigration

    Immigration Law Section

    This section provides members the opportunity to exchange information with other immigration law practitioners, produces a newsletter on both federal and state immigration laws and holds timely educational programming.
     

  • Intellectual Property

    Intellectual Property Section

    This section provides a resource for lawyers who practice in intellectual property or have an interest in building an intellectual property practice. The practice areas of trademark, copyright, trade secret and patent law fall within this section.

  • International Law

    International Law & Practice Section

    The section serves as a resource for Tennessee lawyers practicing in all aspects of international law focusing on private international law and international business transactions.

  • Juvenile and Children

    Juvenile & Children's Law Section

    This section focuses on enhancing the practice of juvenile justice and children’s law through educational programming, legislative initiatives and advocacy.

  • Labor and Employment Law

    Labor & Employment Law Section

    This section focuses on all traditional labor relations matters arising in individual employment rights. The section produces an annual education seminar on employment law issues and shares news updates with members. 

  • Law Office

    Law Office Technology & Management Section

    This section focuses on issues relating to law practice management and technology and informs its members on the latest developments in these areas. The section also hosts the annual Law Tech CLE and expo.

  • LGBT

    LGBT Section

    This section strives to enhance the status of and provide opportunities to LGBT attorneys and their allies, and to advocate for the TBA's participation on issues of concern to members.
     

  • Litigation

    Litigation Section

    The Litigation Section provides trial attorneys with information on the most recent trends in trial techniques through annual seminars, a newsletter and a quarterly case update.

     

  • Local Government

    Local Government Practice Section

    The Local Government Section provides a forum for topics such as land use, planning and permitting, municipal finance, contracting, and other local government functions.
     

  • Real Estate

    Real Estate Law Section

    The Real Estate Law Section monitors, studies and proposes statutory developments in property law. The section produces annual CLE programming for real estate lawyers and others and shares news with members.
     

  • Tax Law

    Tax Law Section

    This section provides resources to its members in the areas of state and federal taxation law. It also maintains a liaison with the Tennessee District of the Southeast Region of the Internal Revenue Service and the Tennessee Department of Revenue.
     

  • Tort and Insurance

    Tort & Insurance Practice Section

    The Tort & Insurance Practice Section provides a venue for attorneys to share views and to develop relationships with colleagues in this area of practice. The section offers CLE on issues impacting both tort and insurance law and sends out news and case updates to its members.
