There will be daily activities throughout the TBA Virtual Convention focused on wellness — some active, some involving active learning. Here are the highlights: 

 

MONDAY, JUNE 15

[Wellness Workout] Zumba Monday Morning Kickoff

Zumba with Jennifer – This class is a fun way to get off your feet and improve cardiovascular fitness. Zumba is a type of dance fitness that incorporates Latin-inspired music to promote flexibility, decrease stress, and tone muscle. There will be a warm-up and cool down with modified options for lower impact. 

Jennifer Yokley is a certified Zumba instructor. She also offers health & fitness coaching, personal training, group fitness classes and has a line of all-natural cold pressed juices.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 16

[Wellness Workout] Dance Fit

REFIT Dance Fitness with Colby – REFIT® is a community-centered, value-positive fitness experience designed to engage the heart as a muscle and a soul. It’s combines music with powerful movements to help you feel pumped inside and out!  REFIT® will get you sweating, but it is accessible for all bodies and fitness levels. Colby Block became a certified REFIT® instructor in Fall 2018. Colby also has been practicing law since 2010 and is currently serving as an Assistant Public Defender in the 22nd Judicial District.

  • Mindfulness for Lawyers: Lindsey O’Connell of TLAP

    This workshop enables lawyers to learn about, deepen, and immerse in the practice of mindfulness, while exploring ways of bringing it into their lives, both personally and professionally. Mindfulness for Lawyers helps lawyers reduce stress, improve productivity, and increase resilience through mindfulness, a simple mental practice derived from meditation. Using guided mindfulness exercises and other techniques, lawyers will learn how to control stress and, in turn, improve productivity, creativity and the ability to uphold your ethical responsibilities as an attorney. Lawyers that practice mindfulness can expect reduced burnout, greater efficiency and productivity, and happier, healthier professional life.
     
  • How to Control Stress

    As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we are encountering unprecedented and life-altering circumstances far beyond our control, leaving many of us feeling scared, trapped, isolated, and stressed. This workshop will provide an overview of the human stress response system and how to modulate this survival instinct so that we can improve our mental resilience and reduce the harmful consequences of overwhelming stress. Practices for stress reduction will be explored, including the practice of mindfulness. Participants will learn about, deepen, and immerse in the practice of mindfulness, while exploring ways of bringing it into their lives, both personally and professionally. By learning how to control stress, lawyers will be able to improve productivity, creativity, and the ability to uphold ethical responsibilities while unlocking happier, healthier professional lives.
     
  • Panel discussion on continued learning, and personal experiences on the path to well-being with the Attorney Well-Being Committee.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17

[Wellness Workout] Body Sculpting/Core Conditioning

Total Body Sculpting with Maria – Break a sweat using nothing but your own bodyweight! Strengthen and tone your muscles through fat-burning cardio and strength intervals designed for all levels of fitness.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE  19

 • 11 – 12  p.m.  CDT/12 — 1 p.m. EDT 

[Wellness Workout] Chair Yoga – Easy stretches to do while working from home

Chair Yoga with Hilary - for anyone anywhere – Chair yoga is yoga done sitting in a chair or using a chair for support. It's a great tool for stretching and strengthening that can be done from home. It is an effective way to shake out stiffness and dispel inertia in a workplace as well and requires no previous training for the participant to work safely. All you need is a stable chair that will not slip on the floor, with a firm seat. Hilary Lindsay is a certified yoga teacher and coach to the Vanderbilt University football team. She also continues to coach for the Nashville Predators.
