Welcome to Section Talk Discussion Forums!
TBA Section Talk discussion forums are available to all TBA section members. Each section has its own unique discussion forum that can be accessed through an email account or online portal. The forums allow section members to post questions, request referrals, share knowledge, ask procedural questions, search archived posts and more.
To join a discussion forum you must be a current member or a law student member of the Tennessee Bar Association and a member of at least one section. Access to discussion forums is a member benefit included in the section membership fee.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
There are two options for participating in a TBA Section Talk discussion forum: (1) through email and (2) through the online portal. An email subscription will deliver posts directly to your inbox while the online portal allows members to see posts online. The online portal also allows users to search posts, see discussions by topic and adjust settings. To access the online portal, members will need to complete a one-time email certification process.
Via Email
- Log in to your TBA account
- Go to the MyTBA page (click on the orange welcome box in the top-right of any webpage and then click on the "MyTBA" link)
- At the top of the page, click on "Update My Profile"
- Scroll down to "Communication Opt-ins"
- Find the discussion forum you want to join
- Click "Yes" to opt into the discussion forum
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and save changes
- Once you have opted-in, you will begin receiving emails and can send emails from your inbox using the discussion forum's unique email address
- The forum lists update once a day, overnight, so there will be a short delay in gaining access
Via Online Portal
- Opt-in to the forums you wish to access using the "Via Email" instructions above
- Visit this webpage to access your discussion forums online
- Click on the discussion forum you wish to access through the online portal
- To use the website portal you must certify your email; this is a one-time security measure
- Select the "Email Certify" tab and follow the instructions (If your email is already displayed that means you previously completed the certification process and no other action is needed. If you would like to add an additional email or if no email is displayed then enter the new email address in the box)
- Click "Next Step" at the bottom of the page after entering an email address
- Check your email inbox for an email certification message (be sure to check your spam/junk folder if it does not appear in your inbox)
- Follow the instructions in the email certification message
- Once that process is complete, return to the online portal to begin viewing and responding to posts

To post to a list once you have signed up, use the email address associated with your section discussion forum. See the list of email addresses here.
CUSTOMIZE SETTINGS
To customize your discussion forum settings, visit the online portal and select the "Settings" tab. Here you can manage how often you receive posts (immediately as posted or one daily digest) and what content you want included in the digest option (full posts as text, subject lines only or each post as a separate attachment). You also can pause delivery or unsubscribe from any of your forums through the "Settings" tab.
FAQ
How do I post a question?
You can send an email to the unique email address for your discussion forum or send from the online portal.
My post was rejected, what do I do?
Make sure you are posting from the primary email address you use for your TBA membership. You can check which address is one file by logging into your TBA account.
How do I change the email address used on the discussion forum?
You can change your primary email address on the MyTBA page. If you need to use a different address please email support@tnbar.org.
How do I search previous posts?
Past posts are searchable through the online portal.
How can I unsubscribe?
Visit the online portal and select the Settings tab. Choose "unsubscribe." You also may use the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of all Section Talk messages sent by email.
I am no longer receiving Section Talk, what do I do?
Check your spam/junk folder. If you are still having problems please contact support@tnbar.org.
FORUM COMMUNITY RULES
State concisely and clearly the topic in the email subject line. To reply only to sender select the "Reply privately" link in message, which will create a new email. Use this when sending “thank you” and like messages that relate only to the sender. Do not send administrative or trouble shooting messages to the group, instead use the settings in your member profile to manage your account or email support@tnbar.org for questions and support needs. Be respectful at all times. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use. Defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. The Tennessee Bar Association reserves the right to remove any post.
