Poll asks Tennessee lawyers to evaluate Supreme Court justices facing retention elections in August

NASHVILLE, May 27, 2014 – For the first time in its history, the Tennessee Bar Association is conducting a Tennessee Supreme Court Candidate Evaluation Poll to compile the views of TBA members on the upcoming retention election for three justices. The TBA is taking this unprecedented step as part of its efforts to help ensure that the 2014 judicial elections maintain a fair, impartial and accountable judiciary.

Annual contest challenged students to propose legislative responses to issues affecting their communities

NASHVILLE, May 15, 2014 — Middle and high school students from across Tennessee were challenged to produce three-minute videos addressing the statement “There ought to be a law…” The contest asked students to identify an issue affecting their communities and either propose a new law or suggest taking one off the books to address the situation.

The Legal Handbook for Tennessee Seniors includes information about federal benefits programs, estate planning, online security and health care

Judges and judicial candidates agree to higher standard of campaign conduct

NASHVILLE, Jan. 29, 2014 -- A list of judges and judicial candidates who have agreed to a higher standard of campaign conduct was released today by the Tennessee Bar Association. Nearly 150 have signed the Tennessee Fair Judicial Campaign Code of Conduct. In doing so, they agree not to comment during the campaign on legal issues that might come before them as a judge, and if elected, to conduct themselves in a fair and impartial manner and recuse themselves from issues on which they already have announced how they would rule.
