The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland (LAS) will hold a free legal clinic in Antioch Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. The clinic will take place at the southeast branch of the Nashville Public Library, 5260 Hickory Hollow Pkwy, Ste. 202, Antioch 37013. The general civil clinic will assist clients with issues such as landlord/tenant disputes, family law, estate planning and debt collection. Those in need of assistance should register online. Contact Kendra Cheek at 800-238-1443 or kcheek@las.org to volunteer. See all clinics planned for May.

In addition to compelling CLE, social events and networking opportunities, the 2023 TBA Annual Convention will host several meetings of TBA governing bodies. On June 14, the House of Delegates will meet in the afternoon, while new section chairs will meet to make plans for the 2023-2024 bar year. On June 16, the TBA Board of Governors and its Executive Committee will meet after the Lawyers Luncheon. Later that afternoon, the Tennessee Legal Community Foundation (TLCF) and TBA Member Insurance Solutions (TBAMS) will hold their respective board meetings. Wrapping up the day, the Young Lawyers Division's (YLD) Long Range Planning Committee will meet and all young lawyer members of the TBA will gather for the division's annual meeting. On Saturday, members of  the YLD Board will meet for committee breakouts and summer board meeting. Check out the full convention schedule and make plans to be in Knoxville June 14-17!

Nominations are now open for the 2023 American Legal Technology Awards to be held on Oct. 8 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville. The awards honor exceptional achievements in legal technology. This year, the annual event is adding a lifetime achievement award to recognize an individual who has displayed leadership, excellence and vision over a long career in law. The TBA will host a webinar this Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. CDT to look at the health and wellness impacts of changing our clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Join us as we explore the science and advocacy related to this practice. Joanna McCracken, chair of the TBA’s Attorney Well Being Committee, will interview Dr. Beth Malow, director of the Vanderbilt Sleep Division, who has testified on the health aspects related to the practice of changing clocks and has spearheaded legislation to end Daylight Saving Time in Tennessee. Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold three legal clinics in May. The “Attorney of the Day Clinic” will take place May 4 and 18 from 1-3 p.m. CST at the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave., Room 134, Memphis 38103. The monthly clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Library will take place May 13 beginning at 10 a.m. The library is located at 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111. For both clinics, clients will be served on a first come, first served basis. For questions or to volunteer contact Heather Staggs or Walter Casey.

The Second Quarter Restoration Clinic will be held at the Bordeaux-North Community Justice Center in Nashville, 2013 25th Ave. N. in Room 23, on May 6 at 9 a.m. CDT. The clinic will offer pro bono legal counseling as well as a job fair. To get on the docket, call the Criminal Court Compliance Division at 615-880-3838. The formal investiture ceremony for U.S. Magistrate Judge Cynthia Richardson Wyrick will be held May 19 at 1:30 p.m. EDT in the James H. Quillen U.S. Courthouse, 220 West Depot St. in Greeneville. Wyrick, a former TBA president, was named a federal magistrate judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee in 2019, but her investiture ceremony was twice delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
