The Knoxville Bar Association and its Bankruptcy Section, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Suzanne H. Bauknight, will hold a Pro Bono Debt Relief Clinic on Feb. 11 beginning at 8:45 a.m. EST. The event will take place at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and other solutions for clients before volunteer lawyers meet with them to discuss their options. Sign up to volunteer online.

The Tennessee Faith and Justice Alliance will host a free general legal advice clinic in Knoxville on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon EST. The clinic will take place at City Church, 522 Sevier Ave., Knoxville 37920. It is coordinated by the Knoxville Bar Association, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, the University of Tennessee College of Law and LMU Duncan School of Law. No appointment is necessary. The TBA Young Lawyers Division, Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services and Belmont University College of Law kicked off the new year by hosting a “TN Free Legal Answers” clinic on campus last week. Students and volunteer attorneys worked together to answer client questions submitted on the Free Legal Answers site, donating more than $3,000 in pro bono time!

Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold three legal clinics in February. The “Attorney of the Day Clinic” will take place Feb. 2 and 16 from 1-3 p.m. CST at the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave., Room 134, Memphis 38103. The monthly clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Library will take place Feb. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. The library is located at 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111. For both clinics, clients will be served on a first come, first served basis. For questions or to volunteer contact Heather Staggs or Walter Casey.

The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold two clinics next week. On Wednesday, the group will hold a veterans clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Operation Stand Down in Nashville. On Saturday, a general advice clinic will take place at Belmont University, 2005 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37204. All times central. The TBA YLD is hosting a Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) Free Legal Answers Clinic on Thursday at 5 p.m. CST. Attorneys can volunteer virtually or come in person to Belmont University College of Law where they will be paired up with law students and answer legal questions submitted on the TN Free Legal Answers site. The YLD is seeking a firm to provide pizza for dinner for the volunteers. For more information, contact Alix Rogers.

Each month, the agency will offer clinics at the Shelby County Courthouse and at the Benjamin Hooks Library. Then on the second Saturday of each month, MALS will hold a legal clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Library, 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111. The January clinic will take place Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. CST. The Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) pro bono legal clinics are focused specifically on the needs of Nashville’s creative community. The next clinic for income-qualified artists, musicians and creatives will take place Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m. CST at Sevier Park Community Center, 3021 Lealand Ln., Nashville 37204. Those in need of legal services can register for a 30-minute appointment. The deadline to register is Jan. 27 at noon CST. To volunteer for the clinic sign up here.

The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold three clinics next week. On Tuesday, the group will hold a phone clinic from 4-5 p.m. On Thursday, a clinic at Greenhouse Ministries in Murfreesboro will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, a veterans clinic will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in Nashville. Hamilton County circuit court judges and chancellors gathered last week to help decorate Legal Aid of East Tennessee’s Pro Bono Christmas Tree. The tree features handmade cards containing a description of a LAET case in need of a volunteer attorney. Attorneys who come and go from the courthouse are encouraged to visit the tree throughout the holiday season and select a case for representation. The tree is located on the first floor of the Hamilton County Courthouse, 625 Georgia Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402.
