Meet TBA’s Public Service Award Winners
TBA's annual Public Service Awards were presented April 15 at the Public Service Awards brunch, honoring three Tennesseans who are champions of legal aid and pro bono work.
Gender-Affirming Care Creates Tort Liability
In this issue's Day on Torts column, John A. Day explores the principal tool used by the Tennessee General Assembly to enforce the prohibition of gender-affirming care — the tort system.
Consideration of Animals In Tennessee Divorces
The custody of pets is not necessarily a new issue in family-related matters in Tennessee, and it is often a hot topic of discussion during settlement negotiations. Marlene Eskind Moses and Ansley Owens Tillett explore the possibilities of a bill that seeks to dictate the custody and ownership of our furry and not so furry friends when married pet parents go their separate ways.
In this edition’s inspiration for your busy day, we remember two access to justice giants in Tennessee: Andy Branham, a founder of the Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Initiative, and Harris Gilbert, a champion of legal aid and former TBA president.

Book Signing Event Set for TBA Convention
An exciting addition to the TBA's Annual Convention is an event featuring several Tennessee lawyers and friends who have recently published new books. Convention attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the authors, and purchase those books and have them signed. The book signing will take place on June 15 in the Atrium of the Knoxville Marriott from 10:30 a.m.-noon EDT and 1:30-2:30 p.m. EDT. Authors in attendance will include Wendy Bach, 'Prosecuting Poverty, Criminalizing Care;' Ben Barton, 'The Credentialed Court;' Amanda Swanson and Bill Haltom, 'Full Court Press;' Angelia Nystrom, 'Legal Ease and Life Hacks,' Nick McCall, 'Pogiebait's War,' Suzanne Craig Robertson, 'He Called Me Sister;' Georgiana Vines, 'East Tennessee Newsmakers;' and Ashley Wiltshire, 'Everyday Justice.' Our thanks to Union Ave. Books in Knoxville for their assistance with this event.
