Partnership to deliver savings to Tennessee lawyers

NASHVILLE, Sept. 27, 2005 — The Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) has formed a marketing alliance with FedEx that will deliver savings to the TBA’s 9,000 members on select FedEx Express®, FedEx Ground® and FedEx Express® International services. This marks the first time that FedEx has joined with a state bar association to offer cost-effective shipping solutions.

Effort designed to help lawyers displaced by Hurricane Katrina

NASHVILLE, Sept. 14, 2005 — The Tennessee Bar Association today filed a petition with the Tennessee Supreme Court to permit lawyers displaced by Hurricane Katrina temporarily to practice law in Tennessee to aid their clients.

New president announces “Stand Up and Deliver” theme for the year

KNOXVILLE, June 17, 2005 — Memphis lawyer Bill Haltom promises to stand up and deliver as he takes over the leadership of the 9,000-member Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) today. Haltom, a partner in the Memphis law firm of Thomason Hendrix Harvey Johnson & Mitchell PLLC was sworn in during the TBA’s 124th Annual Convention in Knoxville. Chief Justice Frank F. Drowota III administered the oath. Haltom takes the reins from Charles W. Swanson, a partner with the Knoxville firm of Sheppeard, Swanson & Mynatt PLC.

State Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank F. Drowota III among those recognized

KNOXVILLE, June 17, 2005 — The Tennessee Bar Association today presented the 2005 President’s Awards to three lawyers during its annual convention in Knoxville. Outgoing president Charles Swanson — a partner in the Knoxville firm of Sheppeard, Swanson & Mynatt — gave the awards to Murfreesboro lawyer John T. Blankenship of Blankenship & Blankenship, Knoxville lawyer Keith H. Burroughs of Burroughs Collins & Jabaley PLC, and Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank F. Drowota III.

Charles Young honored for article on trademarks in cyberspace

KNOXVILLE, June 17, 2005 — Knoxville lawyer Charles E. Young Jr. received the Justice Joseph W. Henry Memorial Award for Outstanding Legal Writing from the Tennessee Bar Association today during its annual convention in Knoxville. The Joe W. Henry Award is given each year to a member of the Tennessee Bar Association who contributes the most outstanding article to the TBA’s monthly magazine, the Tennessee Bar Journal. The Journal reaches about 8,500 lawyers each month.
