Team will represent state at 2007 National Mock Trial Competition

NASHVILLE, March 27, 2007 — St. Mary’s Episcopal School of Memphis won the state mock trial competition on Saturday prevailing over Family Christian Academy — a team of home-school students from Chattanooga -- in the 27th annual Tennessee State High School Mock Trial Competition. The St. Mary’s team will represent Tennessee at the National Mock Trial Competition in Dallas May 10-12.

Toni New honored for work on behalf of Tennessee children

NASHVILLE, Jan. 23, 2007 — Toni New of Kingsport has been named the 2007 CASA Volunteer of the Year by the Tennessee Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. She was recognized for her work with CASA for Kids Inc. in Sullivan and Hawkins counties, and her long-standing commitment to the mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Awards presented on Saturday, January 13, at Capitol Ceremony

NASHVILLE, Jan. 13, 2007 — Four attorneys who contributed thousands of hours of their time to public service were recently honored by the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) at its annual public service luncheon. Held as part of the association’s leadership conference, the luncheon took place in the state capitol rotunda and featured award winners in several categories as well as a keynote address by Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell.

Lawyers selected from across the state to start 6-month program

Students reflect on separation of power between branches of government

NASHVILLE, May 1, 2006 -- Catherine Fields of Signal Mountain has won first place in a Law Day Essay Contest sponsored by the Tennessee Bar Association. A rising 11th grader at Girls Preparatory School, Fields won second place in the same contest in 2005.

Daylong event to explore increasing diversity in the legal profession

NASHVILLE, March 30, 2006 — Nationally known civil rights attorney Fred Gray will headline a Diversity Summit this Saturday in Memphis for leaders of the Tennessee legal community. Sponsored by the Tennessee Bar Association, the summit will jump start a statewide discussion on diversity in the legal profession and explore concrete ways of increasing diversity in Tennessee’s legal community. The program will be held at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.

Team will represent state at National Mock Trial Competition

NASHVILLE, March 18, 2006 — Knoxville’s West High School won the state championship mock trial competition today, defeating Memphis’ St. Mary’s Episcopal School in the 26th annual Tennessee State High School Mock Trial Competition. Team member Jennifer Camfield was named Best Defense Advocate and Ian Orr was chosen as the team’s most valuable player. The West team will represent Tennessee at the National Mock Trial Competition in Oklahoma City, May 11-13.
