Association's youngest president will lead group in 2011-2012

NASHVILLE, June 1, 2010 — Memphis lawyer Danny Van Horn will take office Thursday as president-elect of the Tennessee Bar Association at the association's annual convention in Nashville. The move puts him in line to assume the presidency in June 2011 as the youngest member of the TBA to hold that office.

NASHVILLE, May 27, 2010 — With the governors' race in Tennessee wide open and party primaries set for Aug. 5, the Tennessee Bar Association's Gubernatorial Forum next week is a key opportunity for the candidates to share their positions on issues of concern to the Tennessee legal community. All four major candidates have committed to participate in the event on Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville. NASHVILLE, May 25, 2010 — Knoxville fifth-grader Chihye Kim of Cedar Bluff Elementary has won first place in a Law Day art contest sponsored by the Tennessee Bar Association, while Matthew Street, a senior at First Assembly Christian School in Cordova, won first place in the TBA's essay contest.

National groups will provide funding for disaster legal services

NASHVILLE, May 20, 2010 — A toll-free legal assistance line for victims of recent storms and flooding, established earlier this month, is now being supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD). FEMA and the ABA YLD join a partnership of nine Tennessee legal organizations that launched the hotline on May 6.

Partnership between Tennessee legal organizations helps residents

NASHVILLE, May 6, 2010 — A toll-free legal assistance line will be available starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. for victims of recent storms and flooding in counties that have been designated as federal disaster areas. The service, which allows callers to request the assistance of a lawyer, is a partnership between the Tennessee Bar Association, local bar associations and legal organizations in the state.

Youth court participants to attend training and legislative meetings

NASHVILLE, April 27, 2010 — Twenty-five Wilson County high school students who participate in the state Youth Court Program will convene in Nashville tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28, for the fourth annual Youth Court Day on the Hill. The teens will gather at the Tennessee Bar Association for a training session in the morning, which also will include a presentation by Assistant Attorney General Gregory Nies, and then visit the state capitol to meet with legislators.
