The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee (ACLU-TN) will honor Hedy Weinberg with its Lifetime Achievement Award at its Nov. 10 fundraiser. Weinberg was the organization’s executive director for more than 37 years, until she stepped down in early July. The event also will be an opportunity for supporters to welcome new Executive Director Kathy Sinback. The fundraiser will take place from 6-8 p.m. CDT at Wilburn Street Studio in Nashville. Tickets are $150 per person ($75 for attendees age 35 and under) and may be purchased online or by calling the ACLU-TN office at 615-320-7142.

The Memphis Bar Association will holds its annual Pro Bono Awards celebration on Nov. 3 from 5-6:30 p.m. CDT at Butler Snow’s Memphis office, 6075 Poplar Ave. #500, Memphis 38119. The celebration will honor a judge, attorney, public interest professional, law student, law firm and legal department that made a difference through pro bono service. The event is free but registration is required. Contact Lauren Gooch with any questions. A free one-hour CLE on handling pro bono cases will proceed the celebration.

The Memphis Lawyers’ Chapter of the Federalist Society will host Josh Hammer, opinion editor of Newsweek and research fellow with the Edmund Burke Foundation, on Nov. 2 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. CDT. The event will take place at the Hu Hotel Ballroom, 79 Madison Ave., Memphis 38103. The Chattanooga office of Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) is hosting its annual Pro Bono Night this Thursday at Chattanooga Whiskey Event Hall. The evening will feature food, drinks, music, a silent auction and the group’s traditional awards ceremony. This year, LAET will be honoring the partnership and pro bono work of attorneys Emily O’Donnell and Rebecca Miller, as well as the Chattanooga Hamilton County Family Justice Center and the Chattanooga Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. The YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee will host its next Stand Against Injustice virtual lunch and learn on Oct. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. CDT. The Access to Justice Commission is hosting a free CLE opportunity on representing children in obtaining Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. It will be on Oct. 27 from 12-1 p.m. CDT. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti is set to deliver remarks during a Nashville Federalist Society event hosted by the group’s Young Lawyers Committee on Oct. 27. The event will take place in a private speakeasy at the Union Stockyards Nashville Apartments, 222 Stockyard St., Nashville. Lawyers across the country are participating in the National Celebration of Pro Bono, which runs Oct. 23-29. This year’s theme, Law in Everyday Life, focuses attention on the ways in which access to legal assistance affects historically excluded and low-income individuals. Also held during the week is ABA Giving Day on Oct. 27. Organized by the American Bar Association's Fund for Justice and Education, the effort raises support for ABA programs that help others through public service, policy initiatives and education programs.
