The YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee will host its next Stand Against Injustice virtual lunch and learn on Nov. 29 from 1-2 p.m. CST. This month's topic will be "Antisemitism in Our Day." The program will explore the rise of antisemitism in Tennessee and across the country. The Vanderbilt Project on Unity & American Democracy is hosting an event at Vanderbilt University’s Student Life Center Ballroom to examine the potential impact of recent Supreme Court decisions on the perceived politicization of federal courts. Panelists with experience as White House counsel in Republican and Democratic administrations are expected to discuss the intricacies of the federal judiciary’s nomination and confirmation process. Additionally, this expert group, including CBS News’ chief judicial correspondent, will highlight which decisions will generate headlines in the coming year and what effect, if any, the major decisions of 2022 had on the midterm elections. The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts is joining the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in providing free legal services for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits at a clinic on Nov. 17. Issues to be covered include questions about business formation, corporate governance, contract review and navigating local ordinances and state regulations. Eligible businesses may receive up to one hour of assistance but must register by Monday. Clients may sign up online. To volunteer, email vlpa@abcnashville.org.

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands is hosting a free Family Law Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 1660 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Attorneys will offer free legal advice about orders of protection, getting a divorce, custody and child support, adoptions and domestic violence. If you need legal advice for any of the legal issues listed above, attend the clinic. Registration is not required. (Important: This clinic will only be for legal advice. The Knoxville Bar Association and its Bankruptcy Section, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Suzanne H. Bauknight, will hold a Pro Bono Debt Relief Clinic on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon EST. The event will take place at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and other solutions for clients before volunteer lawyers meet with them to discuss their options. Sign up to volunteer.

Applications are now being accepted for Scaling Small Law, a three-month-long advanced program for entrepreneurial lawyers, solo practitioners and newly formed solo/small firms. This comprehensive business education and development program program offers training in business planning, marketing, solo/small firm finance and budgeting, client service and experience, ethical considerations, and outsourcing and leveraging technology.
