For Women’s History Month, the Chattanooga Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a Women’s Commemorative Suffrage March at noon EST on March. 3. The march will begin at the Hamilton County Courthouse and end at Miller Park with a formal program. Get more information here.

Voting begins tomorrow in the 2023 TBA election. Two candidates are competing for the Second District Governor position — Knoxville attorneys Ben Jones and Andrew Roskind — with voting continuing through April 1. Three candidates are competing for the two East Grand Division Governor positions — Brittany Thomas Faith and David McDowell from Chattanooga and Deborah Yeomans-Barton from Johnson City. Access to the electronic ballot will be sent from the email address TBA.Election@intelliscanvotes.com. Please check your spam filters if you do not receive a ballot notification. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti will hold three town hall meetings across the state to discuss the impact technology is having on Tennessee families, particularly children. Meetings are open to the public. The schedule is as follows: March 2 at 6 p.m. CST at Ross View Middle School in Clarksville; March 9 at 6 p.m. CST at Southwest Tennessee Development District in Jackson; and March 27 at 6 p.m. EDT at the Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts.

The University of Tennessee College of Law will host a symposium on March 9 looking at the outcome of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The daylong program, sponsored by the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice, will focus on how the decision has impacted constitutional rights, marginalized communities and women's health. The five sessions will feature law professors from a wide variety of law schools across the country. Programming will be offered in person and virtually. See the full line up or register here.

Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold three legal clinics in March. The “Attorney of the Day Clinic” will take place March 2 and 16 from 1-3 p.m. at the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave., Room 134, Memphis 38103. The monthly clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Library will take place March 11 beginning at 10 a.m. CST. The library is located at 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111. For both clinics, clients will be served on a first come, first served basis. All times central. For questions or to volunteer contact Heather Staggs or Walter Casey.

The University of Tennessee College of Law will host the annual Julian Blackshear Jr. Scholarship Gala on March 25. This signature event, honoring alumnus Julian Blackshear Jr. as one of the college’s first African American graduates, serves as a fundraiser for scholarships that are used to attract a talented and diverse student body. This year’s event will feature a keynote address by Harvard Law School professor David B. Wilkins, who will speak on diversity trends in the legal profession and the U.S. Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on affirmative action in higher education. The gala will take place at the Crowne Plaza, 401 W. Summit Hill Dr., Knoxville. Advance tickets are required and may be purchased here.

The University of Memphis School of Law and Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law will hold open houses for prospective students in the coming days. Memphis Law will hold its Diversity & Pre-Law Day on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST. Then on March 1, Duncan Law will hold an open house from 5:30 to 8 p.m. EST.

The University of Tennessee College of Law celebrates Black History Month with a Black Women in Appellate Law Panel, hosted by the Black Law Student Association. Panelists will include Justice Kyra Harris Bolden, the first Black woman to serve as an Associate Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court and Ashely Stewart, the first Black woman to argue in front of the Iowa Supreme Court. This event is Wednesday at noon EST in Room 237.
