As part of its ongoing effort to gather feedback from Tennessee attorneys on the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Sept. 16 order seeking public comment on seven areas of potential regulatory changes to the legal profession, the TBA’s Legal Access and Regulatory Reform Task Force is hosting a series of virtual town halls. Monday's event will start at noon CDT and focus on ABA Accreditation; Thursday's session will also begin at noon CST and cover Interstate Mobility and Reciprocity. There is no cost to attend but registration is required to receive the meeting link. Attorneys also are encouraged to review the TBA’s Legal Access & Regulatory Reform resource page before attending.

The Tennessee Department of Revenue will host a free webinar on the Family-Owned Non-Corporate Entity (FONCE) exemption for the franchise and excise tax on Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. CST. Department staff will discuss eligibility criteria, application requirements and the annual renewal procedure for the FONCE exemption. The TBA Criminal Justice Section and the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities on Monday, March 23 will provide a free webinar focused on working with clients who have developmental disabilities. This primer will kick off a series of deeper discussions about topics regarding developmental disabilities and how these disabilities are considered in Tennessee courts. One hour of general CLE credit is available for a $50 processing fee. Learn more here.

The event this week will focus on non-lawyer ownership and fee sharing. There is no cost to attend but registration is required to receive the meeting link. The event is part of TBA's ongoing effort to gather feedback from Tennessee attorneys on the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Sept. 16 order seeking public comment on seven areas of potential regulatory changes to the legal profession. The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law (LMU Law) will host its second annual Student Public Interest Fellowship (SPIF) Auction on March 26 at 5 p.m. EDT. The event raises funds to support students who take summer internships at public defender and district attorney offices and legal aid organizations. Live and silent auctions will be held and Bridgett McMahan, president of the LMU Law Alumni Association, will serve as the evening’s speaker. Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts will host its "Legal Clinic for the Arts" from 6-8 p.m. CST Feb. 24 after the event was postponed due to the recent winter storm. The clinic will take place at Belmont University College of Law’s Randall and Sadie Baskin Center, 1901 15th Ave. S., in Nashville. It will provide one-on-one legal consultations for income-qualified Tennessee artists, emerging arts nonprofits and creative businesses, focusing on arts-related issues. Participants can register for a 30-minute, in-person private session and will be contacted to confirm appointment details.
