The Memphis Bar Association will hold its annual memorial service on Wednesday at noon at Calvary Episcopal Church. The service honors members of the bar who passed away during the last year. See the list of lawyers who will be honored.

A portrait of Judge Rita Stotts will be unveiled during ceremonies Friday at 2 p.m. in the south hallway of the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave. A reception will follow the ceremony. Judge Stotts was on the Circuit Court, Division IV, from May 2000 until her death in January 2009. All members of the legal community are invited to attend.

The American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division is holding its spring meeting in Nashville May 3-5 and will be hosting a Project Salute Clinic on Friday, May 4, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The program, which is the group's primary public service initiative for the year, educates American veterans on the benefits available to them and helps them obtain those benefits. The program is being led this year by Tennessee's own young lawyer Matt Potempa.

The Nashville Bar Association will hold its annual Law Day Luncheon on Monday at the Downtown Renaissance Hotel from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The event will feature a keynote speech by U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, who will recount the events that led to the early removal of former Tennessee governor Ray Blanton. The luncheon also will feature various awards and an announcement of the winners of the local art and essay contest. Learn more from the NBA.

Sumner County's Tennessee Teen Court Program Inc. will celebrate 10 years of service with a scholarship benefit dinner, silent auction and awards May 3 at Hendersonville Christian Academy, 355 Old Shackle Island Road. Teen Court provides juveniles who are first-time offenders an opportunity to face a jury of their peers. All proceeds from the event will go to the program's Mary Ann Williams Scholarship. Williams was the program coordinator with the Sumner County Juvenile Court, and was instrumental in starting the teen court program, which since 2003 has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships to Sumner County Teen Court seniors. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by contacting Tammy Lee at 451-6035.

Students from area high schools, colleges and youth organizations will get an opportunity to learn about the legal profession April 24 at “Legal Careers Forum: The ABCs – Advocates, Barristers and Counselors.” The event, part of The Memphis Challenge Inc.’s expanding series of career exploration events, will be held at 4 p.m. in the University of Memphis School of Law’s Wade Auditorium. The event will include a tour of the law school, a panel discussion and a Q&A session. Confirmed speakers include Charles Blatteis, managing attorney of Blatteis Law Firm; Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Gina Higgins; Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Assistant Director Richard Moore; and law school Dean Kevin Smith. The event is free, but online registration is required.

The Montgomery County Disproportionate Minority Contact Task Force will host the 2nd Annual Joint Conference on Juvenile Justice this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The purpose of the conference is to prevent juvenile delinquency by increasing awareness of issues, programs and available resources. The task force operates under the umbrella of the Tennessee Commission on Children & Youth and the APSU Juvenile Justice Grant. This year the guest speaker will be Lowell Perry Jr., executive director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. The event is free and open to the public. Learn more in the Leaf Chronicle
