Lipscomb University’s HumanDocs Film Series will present “The Waiting Room” Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Shamblin Theatre on campus. The film explores the nation’s health care system by weaving together the stories of patients and caregivers at a public hospital in Oakland. A panel discussion featuring Tennessee Justice Center director Gordon Bonnyman, medical student Italo Brown and veteran emergency room physician Harold Smith will take place before the screening.

A ceremony to unveil a portrait of retired Judge George H. Brown, Jr. will be held on Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. in the lobby of Brinkley Plaza. Hors d’oeuvres from Felicia Suzanne’s will be served. Judge Brown was the first African-American Justice on the Tennessee Supreme Court and served as a Circuit Court Judge for the 30th Judicial District from 1983-2005. Since his retirement, he has been an active neutral in both mediation and arbitration cases. All members of the legal profession are invited to attend the ceremony.

The Memphis Bar Association will host a Law Rules Public Forum on Thursday at 6 p.m. to discuss the importance of a fair and impartial justice system and the rule of law in American society. Judge Gina Higgins of the Shelby County Circuit Court and attorneys Porter Feild and Tommy Parker will be on hand to lead the discussion at the Benjamin L. Hooks Public Library.

The Ben F. Jones chapter of the National Bar Association will host its annual Barrister’s Ball and Scholarship Awards Saturday at the Racquet Club in Memphis. The Ball is an opportunity for lawyers, judges, and their families to come together for a night of great food, music, dancing, recognition of outstanding achievements, and fundraising to support scholarships to deserving minority students of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Tennessee Supreme Court building in Nashville, original handwritten versions of the three state constitutions will be on public display for the first time Dec. 6-8 and 10. The celebration also includes the opening of the Tennessee Judiciary Museum and a Judicial Family Reunion of all employees who have worked in the building on Dec. 5. Constructed in 1937, the building houses offices for the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Criminal Court of Appeals for the Middle Section of Tennessee. Read more at TNCourts.gov.

Members of the legal community are invited to attend the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the Tennessee Supreme Court Building and unveiling of the new Tennessee Judiciary Museum on Dec. 4. The evening will begin with a 6 p.m. reception at the Hermitage Hotel, followed by a tour of the new Tennessee Judiciary Museum. A shuttle will be provided throughout the evening. The museum is located in the Supreme Court law library, and for one week only, the display will include hand-written pages from the original 1796, 1835 and 1870 Constitutions.
