Practicing attorneys, judges, and law students are needed to judge the Fifth Annual Commodore Classic undergraduate mock trial tournament on Jan. 19-20 at Vanderbilt University. Twenty-four of the top collegiate mock trial teams from across the nation will participate in two mock trial rounds no longer than three hours both days. The opening round of the American Mock Trial Association’s 29th National Intercollegiate Tournament will be held at the Shelby County Courthouse in Memphis on March 22, 23 and 24, 2013. Attorneys in the state are invited to serve as judges for one or more of the four rounds. Informational session will be held one hour prior to each round. The American Bar Association will hold a Town Hall Discussion “Advocating for Equality in the Next Generation – Disability Rights” at Vanderbilt University Law School on Jan. 25, 2013, in the Moore Room. The ABA Town Hall Series is designed to encourage dialogue among law students, young lawyers, experienced members of the bar, and others in the community about how the legal profession should address issues of inequality, intolerance and discrimination in the profession and in society. This year’s Tennessee Bar Foundation Fellows’ Dinner will feature the video premiere of 10 interviews with distinguished Tennessee attorneys conducted as part of the Legal Traditions program. This year, guests at the dinner will see interviews with Justice William M. Barker, William L. (Dick) Barry, W.J. Michael Cody, Judge Herschel P. Franks, Harris A. Gilbert, Judge Thomas A. The Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) will host its 33rd Annual Banquet and Silent Auction Jan. 17, at the Tower Center at Clark Tower. A cocktail hour with cash bar and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and program will start at 6:45 p.m. During the event, the group will install its new president, induct board members and committee chairs for 2013, and present the Marion Griffin-Frances Loring Award for outstanding achievement in the legal profession. Tickets are $60 for AWA members, $70 for nonmembers and $40 for law students. Proceeds benefit scholarships for University of Memphis law students. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Paulette Delk will receive the Marion Griffin-Frances Loring Award for outstanding achievement in the legal profession at the Association for Women Attorneys’ annual banquet. The Knoxville Bar Association (KBA) will hold its annual meeting and elections on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the main assembly room of the City County Building, following a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. The following candidates have been nominated: President-Elect Wade V. Davies, Treasurer Tasha C. Blakney and Secretary Wayne R. Kramer. Four board members also will be selected. The following been nominated for three-year terms: Douglas A. Blaze, Steven D. Lipsey, Chris W. McCarty, Wynne du Mariau Caffey, William A. Mynatt Jr. and Hanson R. Tipton. The fourth position, which is for one year, is designated as a government/public sector position. Chancellor John F. Weaver has been nominated for that role.

The Hamilton County Courthouse will host an open house concert Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m. with performances by the Chattanooga Girls Choir and the Chattanooga Boys Choir. In addition, on Dec. 13, the courthouse will host "Stories with Mrs. Claus" from 6-7:30 p.m. Children ages 2 to 10 are invited to decorate sugar cookies and gather around the tree for Christmas stories.
