Events added to the list of activities taking place across the state include a luncheon in Greeneville hosted by the Northeast Tennessee Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and an evening session with U.S. Attorney Bill Killian hosted by the Bradley County Bar Association. Bar associations and legal organizations across the state are gearing up for this year’s Law Day with events and activities that involve opportunities for public service, awards for attorneys and members of the community, and lots of food and fun. The state’s four largest cities – Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville -- have luncheons planned on May 1, while other groups have already held events. Young lawyer groups with each of these bar associations also sponsored activities providing public and legal services to their communities. The TBA will announce the winners of its YouTube Video Contest and the winners of the statewide Law Day Art & Essay Competition on May 1 as well. See the line-up of events happening across the state

Law Week activities kick off tomorrow with the 6th Annual Law Week Launch Party in Memphis' Court Square, from 5 p.m. to 7p.m. Attendees will enjoy free drinks, food by Central BBQ, Lickity Split Ice Cream and music by WALRUS. Attendees are also encouraged to bring a canned good item for the Mid-South Food Bank.

The Memphis Bar Association’s Annual Memorial Service will be held May 1 at noon at Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Memphis. The church is located at 102 North Second St., Memphis 38103. This year's service will honor 24 lawyers who died in the past year. Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Gary R. Wade and three other justices will be in Johnson City next month to honor pro bono volunteer attorneys at a “Dinner with the Tennessee Supreme Court” hosted by Legal Aid of East Tennessee. The event, scheduled for May 1, will take place at the Carnegie Hotel and is open to the public. Tickets are $50. Funds raised will benefit Legal Aid’s Pro Bono Project. A reception with justices Cornelia Clark, Janice Holder, Sharon Lee and Wade begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner to follow. The Annual National Bar Association Lawyers vs. Bluff City Medical Society Fundraiser Basketball Game will be held Saturday at the Downtown Boys and Girls Club Gymnasium in Memphis. The game starts at 2:30 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m. for pre-game activities, community activities and team warmups. Proceeds from the game, sponsored by the NBA’s Ben F. The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Washington County Sheriff's Office, in association with Safe Passage domestic abuse shelter in Johnson City, will hold the Justice in Motion 5K run/walk April 27 during National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The event is designed to raise awareness of victims’ rights and will benefit the work of Safe Passage. Local domestic abuse shelters, sexual assault centers, victims groups and law enforcement agencies are invited to attend the race and set up booths with literature about their services. The next Veterans’ Legal Clinic sponsored by the Memphis Bar Association will take place Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. at 1407 Union Ave., Suite 815. A training session for volunteers will be held immediately prior to the clinic from 11 a.m. to noon. Training will cover legal issues most often raised by veterans including expungement of a criminal record; handling fines, tickets and court costs; and paying child support.
