Don't forget to "Click Your Heels" for gender equity as part of the ABA's virtual march tomorrow. Held in conjunction with the ABA's Day of the Woman, the effort is designed to raise awareness about gender inequality in the workplace, including at law firms where studies show women are not compensated at the same levels as men. To participate in the “march,” visit the ABA's gender equity page, and vote "yes" for gender equality. Learn more about the issue and the work of the ABA task force on the group's website.

Each year, the Knoxville Bar Association hosts a dinner to pay tribute to the justices of the Tennessee Supreme Court as well as the local judiciary. This year’s event will be Sept. 4 at the newly renovated Holiday Inn World's Fair Park. Free parking is available in the hotel garage. The event begins with a reception in the Sundries Courtyard at 6 p.m., followed by dinner in the Grand Pavilion at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 each and tables of 10 may be reserved in advance. This year’s dinner will feature Birmingham attorney Freddy Rubio and his wife Isabel, who have been at the forefront of advocacy for the Hispanic community. Nashville’s Lipscomb University will hold a pro bono clinic training session for lawyers on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Institute for Civic Leadership's conference room on the third floor of the Ezell Center. Dinner will be provided. Palmer Williams from the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission will explain the clinic process and attendees will receive reference material to prepare for upcoming legal clinics. Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) will host "Solo in the Park" -- an auto competition and fundraiser -- on Aug. 17 and 18 at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville. Drivers will compete separately in a timed skill and handling competition. Registration is $35. Spectators are asked to make a $5 per family donation. Ride-alongs (helmets provided!) cost $10. Dave Yoder, executive director of Legal Aid of East Tennessee, has issued a challenge to area attorneys: beat his time and he will make a $250 to LAET. In addition, LAET lawyer Terry Woods has agreed to match the contribution if he is beaten. Proceeds from the event benefit LAET and the Knoxville Family Justice Center, which provides services to domestic violence victims. Download a flyer about the event. Former TBA President and Memphis attorney George T. "Buck" Lewis will receive a Presidential Citation from ABA President Laurel Bellows at the ABA Pro Bono Publico Awards luncheon Aug. 12 in San Francisco. The presidential citation is a new award that allows the ABA president to recognize lawyers who have made "noteworthy contributions to the legal profession and the ABA," and who exhibit "outstanding leadership qualities." The luncheon is being held in conjunction with the ABA Annual Meeting. Representatives from the Tennessee legal community will be in attendance to celebrate Lewis' recognition.

A former trial attorney with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) who now represents employers in lawsuits, Paul Patten, says several recent EEOC cases highlight the increasing government scrutiny of employers that use blanket criminal background checks to screen applicants. The EEOC recently sued Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General and a U.S. unit of German automaker BMW AG, alleging the companies refused to hire applicants with criminal records, when the companies should have individually considered each applicant. Patten will discuss rapidly evolving employment law trends, along with a panel of industry experts, Aug. 8 in a seminar sponsored by The Daily News.

CASA of Northeast Tennessee will hold its 8th Annual Golf Tournament Aug. 19 at the Johnson City Country Club. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. The event, a four-person scramble, includes lunch and a number of door prizes. Participants are encouraged to raise $400, which will support a child for one year, or pay the $100 players fee.
