The 3rd Annual “SOLO Time at Bristol” autocross competition will be held at the Bristol Motor Speedway May 3. More than 100 competitors are expected. They will drive a timed precision course on a flat track. All proceeds benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and Legal Aid of East Tennessee. Learn more about the event.

Chattanooga attorney Max Bahner will receive the 2014 Outstanding Service Award at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s annual Legends and Leaders Banquet on April 25. Bahner is senior member of the litigation section of Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel and is a Founding Fellow and past president of the Chattanooga Bar Association and a Founding Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation. Bar associations and legal organizations across the state are gearing up for this year’s Law Day with events that begin this week and run through May. Activities include programs for lawyers, public service opportunities, presentation of awards and recognition of students who participate in law-related education programs. The theme of this year’s celebration is “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters,” which asks Americans to reflect on the importance of a citizen’s right to vote and the challenges we still face in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in our democracy. Lipscomb University will host a legal clinic April 29 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Swang 108 on its Nashville campus. The event is being held in response to the growing need for legal support in the community. Those who would like to volunteer also are invited to a meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. to discuss issues that may be brought up by clients. The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Washington County Sheriff's Office will hold the Justice in Motion 5K run/walk April 26 to raise awareness of victims’ rights. The event, held each year during National Crime Victims' Rights Week, benefits Safe Passage, a domestic abuse shelter in Johnson City, and CHIPS, a family violence shelter in Erwin. Local domestic abuse shelters, sexual assault centers, victims groups and law enforcement agencies are invited to attend the race and set up booths with information about their services.

The Tennessee Women's Theater Project is seeking attorneys to join its first annual Lawyers Show, "The Very Merry Wives of Windsor, Iowa" by Alison Carey, based on the comedy by William Shakespeare. The performance will be the first of its kind in Nashville: a production cast entirely with lawyers, professionally directed, designed and staffed by Tennessee Women's Theater Project. Roles are available for 10 women and five men. No acting experience is required. Performances will be held at Belmont's Troutt Theater June 27 and 28. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the city of Knoxville will host a series of events throughout the year with the theme "Unfinished Business: Then, Now & Going Forward." Events kick off with a presentation by former Alabama Attorney General Bill Baxley and U.S. Attorney Doug Jones, who prosecuted the four men who bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. They will discuss internal and external barriers they faced. The event is April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1807 Dandridge Ave. The goal of this series is to enhance the public's knowledge and understanding of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by providing information about the historical context and events surrounding its passage. The University of Memphis School of Law will host its annual Open House for admitted students this Saturday. The program will provide an opportunity for incoming first years to meet professors, learn about academic curriculum and financial aid, talk with current students and interact with alumni. Then on Tuesday, the school will host American Bar Association President Jim Silkenat. He will speak at 2:30 p.m. in the historic courtroom.
