A forum with candidates for area judicial positions will be held tomorrow night at 7 in the Bradley County Commission meeting room at the Bradley County Courthouse. The event is sponsored by the Bradley County Bar Association, Cleveland Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Cleveland. This session also serves to recognize Law Day, proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 to honor the role of law in the creation of the United States. The Cleveland Banner has more.

The Knoxville Bar Association today announced two events to recognize former TBA president and newly installed U.S. District Court Judge Pamela Reeves. The Chattanooga and Northeast Tennessee Chapters of the Federal Bar Association will host a reception honoring Judge Reeves at the Holiday Inn World’s Fair Park May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. RSVP to bchasse@hsdlaw.com or dessauer@hsdlaw.com. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Gary Wade, Justice Janice Holder and 12 other jurists will address the annual conference of the Southeast Chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates (SEABOTA) next week in Nashville. On May 2, O’Connor will speak on the crisis in civics education and how it impacts the civil justice system. Her presentation will be followed by a panel of Supreme Court justices speaking on civics, civility, access to justice, politics and trends impacting the courts. Former President Bill Clinton will be in Nashville on Monday to serve as the keynote speaker as LEAD Academy celebrates its inaugural class of graduates. LEAD, the first and only charter high school in Nashville, has boasted 100 percent college acceptance this spring among its 44 seniors. Clinton was a key backer before LEAD opened its doors in 2007 and now will be here during a private "senior signing day" in which graduates will reveal their college plans. During the same stop in Nashville, Clinton will attend an evening fundraiser at the Forest Hills home of real estate developer Bill Freeman benefiting the nonprofit Clinton Foundation, the Tennessean reports.

"Outcasts: Surviving the Culture of Rejection," a locally produced documentary that looks at the high cost of recidivism and its impact on Northeast Tennessee, will premier Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Wellmont Regional Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Northeast State Community College. Produced by Jane Hillhouse of Hillhouse Video Works in Kingsport, "Outcasts" also examines viable solutions that are making a difference. Dress for Success Nashville, a program of the YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee that promotes economic independence for women by providing professional attire and career development, is looking for clothing, purses, briefcases and portfolios. Donors can drop off items this Friday at Lipscomb University's Ezell Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clothing must be in nearly new condition and on hangers. Nashville lawyer Marisa Combs is among the volunteers leading the effort.

The Knoxville Bar Association will hold a fundraiser May 15 to honor the memory of Don Paine and raise funds for the Tennessee Judicial Conference Foundation’s Don Paine Scholarship. “The Tie That Binds: A Blind Wine Fundraiser” will take place at the Island Home Airport from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. A $25 ticket includes entrance to the event and two drinks. A wide assortment of Paine’s ties will be auctioned off to raise money. Those who cannot attend the event may still bid on the ties by emailing Marsha Wilson. Those participating in the blind wine tasting should bring two 750 ml bottles of the exact same wine (red, white or sparkling) by 7 p.m. The “best” wine will be determined in each category. Winners will receive a cache of wines.

A bicycle ride to honor Lebanon attorney Jere McCulloch's life and to raise funds for a special needs organization will be April 26 at the Wilson County Fairgrounds. McCulloch died of a heart attack last August while competing in the Heart of Tennessee 100, a bicycle race sponsored by the Murfreesboro Bicycle Club. He was a founding partner of Rochelle, McCulloch and Aulds. The first "Jere’s Ride," sponsored by Leadership Wilson, will feature three course options, a three-mile family ride, a 15-mile novice course and a 31-mile expert race. Jere’s Ride will benefit the Empower Me Day Camp, a nonprofit corporation established to provide more opportunities for children with disabilities in the greater Nashville area. Justices of the Tennessee Supreme Court will gather in Kingsport May 6 as guests of Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) to honor attorneys who have donated hours of their time to those unable to afford civil legal counsel. Chief Justice Gary R. Wade is the keynote speaker, and is scheduled to be joined by justices Cornelia A. Clark, Janice M. Holder, William C. Koch and Sharon G. Lee for the dinner and silent auction that benefit LAET’s Pro Bono Project. The event is open to the public; tickets are $50.
