The Memphis-based Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) will hold its 3rd Annual AWA Foundation Golf Tournament at Mirimichi Golf Course May 30. Junior’s House Child Advocacy Center will host the 10th Annual Blue Ribbon Walk Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Stone Bridge Memorial Park in Fayetteville. State Sen. Jim Tracy and State Rep. Pat Marsh will be this year’s grand marshals. Nationally, April is known as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Pinwheels that are placed in front of the Lincoln County Courthouse represent 500 child abuse referrals reviewed by Junior’s House and child protective investigative team this year. The Hawkins County Recovery Court, a division of General Sessions Court, will hold its first graduation ceremony Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Rogersville City Park's main stage. The event is in celebration of National Drug Court Month and the 25th Anniversary of Drug Courts nationwide. Patty Ward will be recognized as the first graduate for completing an intensive program of comprehensive drug treatment, close supervision and full accountability. The Rogersville Review has more.

Chattanooga lawyer Jerry H. Summers has spent 40 years handling criminal defense and civil cases and now shares his experiences in a new book “The Turtle and The Lawyer,” The Chattanoogan.com reports. Summers says he wrote the book to encourage readers that “life is not solely about the successes one achieves but is even more about the failures one survives.” He will be signing copies of the book Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Book Company, 3205 Ringgold Rd. Proceeds will be donated to a number of organizations, including the University of Tennessee College of Law, Special Olympics and the Orange Grove Center.

The Knoxville Leadership Foundation is hosting an event on May 22 to honor Juvenile Court Judge Tim Irwin and raise money for Amachi Knoxville, a mentoring program operated by the foundation for children with incarcerated parents. The dinner will take place at the Orangery from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The annual Legends Event highlights an individual who has had an impact on youth in the community. Tickets are still available.

Lawyers and others across Tennessee can show their support for the state Youth Court Program by taking part in The Big Payback, a 24-hour online giving campaign hosted by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday and running through 6 a.m. Wednesday, donors can designate their contributions to the Tennessee Legal Community Foundation for use by the Youth Court Program. The program now supports 21 youth courts across Tennessee, educating hundreds of students about our system of justice and reducing recidivism rates among juvenile offenders by half the rates of traditional programs.

The Nashville Bar Association (NBA) will hold its annual spring Memorial Service May 15 at the Downtown Presbyterian Church, 154 5th Ave. N., Nashville 37219. The service begins at 11 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Family members and friends of the deceased are invited to attend. Attorneys to be honored are Samuel Butts III, James Campbell Jr., David Discenza, Brannon Huddleston, Arnold Lefkovitz, Charles Craig Morrow, J.L. "Jack" Thompson and Aaron Wyckoff.

The investiture of Neal McBrayer as judge for the Tennessee Court of Appeals is set for May 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Historic Supreme Court Chambers of the state Capitol. A reception will follow and the public is invited to attend. McBrayer, a Maryville native, most recently served as an attorney in the Nashville office of Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada where he handled commercial litigation and bankruptcy law. He was appointed to the court by Gov. Bill Haslam in August 2013 to replace Judge Patricia J. Cottrell, who is stepping down at the end of the current term. The University of Tennessee College of Law announced this week that Tennessee Supreme Court Justice and law school alumna Sharon Lee will address the 2014 graduating class during the spring hooding ceremony May 9. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena. Lee graduated from the school in 1978. Her daughter earned a law degree there in 2012.
