Grammy Award-winning country music producer Kyle Lehning will receive the Bob Sullivan Service Award from Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands for his long-standing commitment to connecting Music Row with Legal Aid. The award will be presented during the fifth annual Bob Sullivan Memorial Breakfast this Wednesday, starting at 7:45 a.m. at Cabana, 1910 Belcourt Ave. in Nashville. Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will celebrate its new home in the Falls Building at 22 N. Front Street in downtown Memphis next Thursday. A ribbon cutting and reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the building. The open house will run until 7 p.m. with tours of the 11th floor where the offices are located. The Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic & Sexual Violence will host a special screening of “Private Violence” next Thursday in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event will take place from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville. The film is an award-winning documentary that explores the complicated realities of intimate partner violence in today’s American life. After the film, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of Mark Wynn, a 21-year veteran of the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department and member of the Domestic Violence Division. The Ben F. Jones Chapter of the National Bar Association will hold its annual Barristers’ Ball this Saturday at the Tower Center, located on the 33rd floor of the Clark Tower, in Memphis. Lawyers from Lewis Thomason’s Knoxville, Nashville and Memphis offices are participating in the Ragnar Tennessee, a 12-person overnight relay spanning roughly 200 miles that benefits Soles 4 Souls. The race begins in downtown Chattanooga on Oct. 24 at 7:30 a.m. and will require the team to run day and night, roughly 31 hours, according to the press release. Former TBA President and Memphis attorney Bill Haltom will sign copies of his latest book, The Other Fellow May Be Right: The Civility of Howard Baker, this Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Parnassus Books, 3900 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville. The book is a tribute to the late senator, whose civility brought adversaries together to find solutions to the nation’s problems. Haltom maintains that Baker’s life can be a model for a new generation of political leaders who too often argue for the sake of argument and accuse for the sake of advantage. The Disability Law & Advocacy Center of Tennessee (DLAC) is hosting an open house Oct. 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to celebrate a new name and a new address for its Nashville office. The Governor’s Commission for Judicial Appointments will meet Wednesday in Columbia to interview eight applicants for the vacancy in the 22nd Judicial District Circuit Court. The hearing will take place in the Tom Primm County Commission Room located at 6 Public Square in downtown Columbia. The meeting will include a public hearing at 9 a.m., during which members of the public may express their opinions about the applicants.
