Columbia native Judge Randolph Baxter will deliver the commencement address at Columbia State Community College on Dec. 13. A graduate of the University of Akron School of Law, Baxter served as a bankruptcy judge for the Northern District of Ohio from 1985 until his retirement in 2011. From 1999 to 2001, he also served as one of five judges on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals’ Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. The Williamson Source has more.

The annual Music City 5k Christmas Run will be held Dec. 13 at Public Square Park in Nashville. Presented by Kinnard, Clayton, & Beveridge law firm, the Run/Walk is one of Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee’s primary fundraising events, which helps support programs and services that assist in preventing child abuse and neglect.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will soon visit Memphis to lead a roundtable discussion with local civil rights leaders to discuss building trust between police and the community, as well as how Memphis is confronting social issues of race. Holder made his first trip of this series to Atlanta on Monday and is scheduled to visit Chicago, Philadelphia and Oakland. The Justice Department has not released a time or place for Holder’s visit to Memphis, Local Memphis reports

President Barack Obama is visiting Nashville next week to deliver remarks on the nation's immigration system at Casa Azafran, an immigrant community center on Nolensville Pike. The Dec. 9 visit will mark Obama's second trip to Nashville in less than a year. In January, Obama visited McGavock High School where he gave a speech on education, the Tennessean reports

A memorial service for Circuit Court Judge Mike Faulk will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Hawkins County Courthouse in Rogersville, the Greeneville Sun reports. Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Gary Wade, Court of Appeals Judge Thomas "Skip" Frierson and Haskell Winstead will speak at the service. Faulk died Nov. 11 from esophageal and liver cancer.

The Memphis Bar Association will hold its Annual Meeting next Wednesday at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. President Kirk Caraway will pass the gavel to Tommy Parker, new board members will be announced and awards will be given. Former lawyer and columnist at the Commercial Appeal Geoff Calkins will give the keynote address. Then next Thursday, the Nashville Bar Association will hold its Annual Meeting at the Wildhorse Saloon. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and program at 7 p.m. The passing of the gavel from President Charles Grant to President-Elect Ed Lanquist, introduction of new officers and presentation of awards will cap off the evening. The Nashville Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society will host a discussion with University of North Carolina Law Professor William Marshall about Town of Greece v. Galloway, a case in which the town’s practice of opening its board meetings with a prayer was found not to violate the Establishment Clause. The Nov. 17 program will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP in Nashville.
