The 5th Annual Solo in the Park autocross competition comes to Knoxville’s Chilhowee Park July 11-12. Sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America, the event features sports car enthusiasts driving a timed precision course. Newly appointed Judge J. Eddie Lauderback will be sworn into office at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Courtroom 7 of the Justice Center in Jonesborough. Gov. Bill Haslam will conduct a more formal swearing in ceremony at a date and time to be determined, the Washington County Bar Associated announced today.

Richard Hughes, public defender for the 10th Judicial District, will host a three-hour seminar tomorrow to explain the process by which certain felony offenders may have the opportunity to expunge their criminal records. The session will run from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hughes’ office, 85 Central Ave. in downtown Cleveland. An editorial in the Cleveland Banner encourages area residents to take advantage of the opportunity.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Middle Tennessee on Wednesday, the Tennessean reports. According to a White House official, the president will discuss how the nation can build on progress made under the Affordable Care Act during remarks at the Taylor Stratton Elementary School in the Madison area. It will be Obama’s third visit to the region in the past year and a half.

Losers Bar and Grill in Cool Springs will host a benefit for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. For $15, guests will receive a beer ticket and an all-you-can-eat BBQ chicken buffet. Alternatively, guests can purchase a $5 drink ticket and participate in games of cornhole. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Losers will donate all event proceeds directly to Williamson County CASA and Nashville CASA, two nonprofits that serve abused and neglected children in their respective communities. Vanderbilt law professor Brian Fitzpatrik will host a live Twitter question-and-answer session Tuesday at 2 p.m. about the U.S. Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on same-sex marriage. Questions can be tweeted in advance or during the event by using the hash tag #AskVU. Fitzpatrick is an expert on constitutional law, judicial politics and federal courts. He was in the courtroom April 28 when the court heard arguments on several same-sex marriage cases.
