University of Tennessee College of Law will host a one-day symposium, “Into the Field: Food and Agricultural Law and Policy,” on changing trends in agricultural production and how law and policy are adapting. Lawyers, students, faculty and community members are invited to attend the Oct. 9 event at the College of Law, 1505 West Cumberland Ave. Cari Rincker of Rincker Law PLLC in New York City will deliver the keynote address.

The ACLU of Tennessee will host its 2015 Bill of Rights Celebration Sept. 30, 6:30 – 9 p.m. at The Noah Liff Opera Center, 3622 Redmon St. in Nashville. The Tanco v. Haslam Supreme Court marriage equality plaintiffs and attorneys from Tennessee will be among those honored. The event includes a performance by Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Gretchen Peters. Tickets may be purchased online.

Davidson County Chancellor Ellen Lyle will speak about the Tennessee Business Court at Memphis Law School on Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. Chancellor Lyle is the first judge of the new business court, a pilot project to centralize certain business-related cases in a court of specialized jurisdiction and knowledge. More than 200 Tennessee court clerks offices will wear purple on Friday to participate in the Purple Out Day. The event raises awareness about Alzheimer’s and related dementias and raises money to support Alzheimer’s Tennessee. "I encourage the community, especially the legal community, to visit the trial court clerks in their county on Friday to thank them for their service and to join me in making a donation to support this great effort,” Jim Hivner, Clerk of the Appellate Courts, said.
