The Conference for Single Parents Rearing At-Risk Males, a new three-day program implemented by Davidson County Juvenile Court Judge Sheila Calloway, will offer training for 250 parents of at-risk males referred to Building Families and Communities Missions. Chattanooga City Attorney Wade Hinton and Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher will attend the Chattanooga Hamilton County NAACP General Membership Meeting today at 6 p.m. at their branch office. "We are asking all our members and supporters to join our Ban the Box and Criminal Justice Reform Campaign," officials said in The Chattanoogan. The office is located at 756 E. MLK Blvd.

Three Tennessee Supreme Court justices will join Legal Aid of East Tennessee in recognizing the volunteer service of lawyers in Upper East Tennessee at an awards dinner Nov. 17 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Chief Justice Sharon G. Lee and Justices Cornelia A. Clark and Jeffrey S. Bivins will help honor lawyers who participated in LAET’s Pro Bono Project, along with those who achieved the distinction of “Attorneys for Justice” by providing more than 50 hours of volunteer legal services in their communities. Tickets are available for $50 per person.

Chattanooga’s Covenant College and the Center for Public Justice are co-hosting a program on predatory payday lending next Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Covenant's chapel, the Chattanoogan reports. Michael Gerson, syndicated columnist and former speech writer for President George W. Bush, will deliver the keynote address, offering a biblical perspective on payday loans and how Christians can respond to this growing issue of injustice.
