Bone McAllester Norton will host a fundraiser on April 21 for Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors to support humanitarian immigration legal services for undocumented immigrants in Middle Tennessee. Funds will help protect victims of war, trafficking and abuse. The event, sponsored by Sherrard and Roe PLC, is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. at Bone McAllester Norton, located at Nashville City Center, 511 Union St., Suite #1600. A $50 contribution is suggested.

WIN is a non-partisan organization dedicated to endorsing and supporting qualified women to run for public office and educating voters about the political process. Former TBA President Bill Haltom will sign copies of his new book this Saturday, 2-4 p.m., at Burke’s Bookstore, 936 South Cooper St. in Memphis. Milk & Sugar: The Complete Book of Seersucker is a guide to the “quintessential Southern fabric” and covers all things seersucker. Haltom, who is a columnist for the Tennessee Bar Journal, practices in Memphis.

The Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women will hold its 2016 Empowerment Conference: Great Expectations! on April 8, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., at Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis LLP, 511 Union Street in Nashville. Speakers include Gwen K. Young, director of the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Global Women’s Leadership Initiative, and Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon Lee. The cost is $100 for TLAW members and $150 for non-members. The event will kick off with a cocktail reception April 7 at the Nashville City Club.

Registration is still available for the Tennessee Faith and Justice Alliance Attorney Training on March 31, 10 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., at the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville. The training will focus on debt collection, expungements, landlord/tenant law, family law and civil general session issues in an effort to help attorneys offer free legal support to low income Tennesseans. Lunch will be provided.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland will host a fundraiser March 21 at the Hattiloo Theater to benefit people who cannot afford to have their criminal records expunged, The Commercial Appeal reports. A 2012 law allows people convicted of specific nonviolent crimes in Tennessee to have their records expunged for a $450 fee. "There are many people in Memphis who want to find a job or a better job and their records are being held against them," Strickland said. The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There is a suggested $25 donation.

National blight-elimination experts will speak at the University of Memphis Law Review’s annual symposium, scheduled for March 18, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The title of this year’s event is “Urban Revitalization: The Legal Implications of Remaking a City.” The event, held at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, will examine the problems facing many major cities as a result of blighted and vacant buildings and neighborhoods. Registration is available online.
