Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors will host a seminar in Nashville for lawyers and paralegals who want to help unaccompanied immigrant children remain in the United States. The seminar is planned for May 19, 2-5 p.m. at Casa Azafran, 2195 Nolensville Pike. Online pre-registration for the course is required. The event is free, but contributions are welcome.

Tomorrow, May 3, is Middle Tennessee’s largest online giving day: The Big Payback. During the 24-hour giving cycle, you can support Tennessee’s Youth Courts by donating at least $10 online. The program allows students who are facing misdemeanor accusations to go before a jury of their peers and provides education about the legal system. The Big Payback is offering prizes/incentives for the nonprofit with the most donations from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (CDT), and for the nonprofit with the largest number of unique or individual donors.

Vanderbilt University Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos will host a roundtable discussion exploring the U.S. Supreme Court’s current vacancy and the controversy surrounding the nomination of a new justice. The roundtable will include Andrew Napolitano, Fox News senior judicial correspondent and author; Jeffrey Toobin, CNN senior legal analyst and New Yorker staff writer; and Audrey Anderson, Vanderbilt University general counsel. The one-hour discussion is planned for May 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Vanderbilt’s Langford Auditorium. A reception will precede the talk at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby.

On May 4, the YWCA will host its annual Stand Against Racism at noon at Nashville’s downtown Public Square Park. The event will be co-hosted by Nashville Mayor Megan Barry. Juvenile Court Judge Shelia Calloway will be one of the speakers. Registration is available online

Ellen Levy, owner of Levy’s Clothier for Men & Women in Nashville, will host an in-store book signing event with former TBA President Bill Haltom, author of Milk & Sugar: The Complete Book of Seersucker, on April 29. Laurie Haspel Aronson of century-old retail brand Haspel – the company credited with introducing the seersucker suit – will join Haltom at the event, scheduled from 3-6 p.m. The event is part of Levy’s annual “Dressing for Steeplechase” event, ahead of the Iroquois Steeplechase. The investiture of Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Roger A. Page by Gov. Bill Haslam will be held April 25 at 2 p.m. at the Mifflin Community Mall, 5330 Clifford Rd., in Luray. The Memphis Bar Foundation’s fundraiser luncheon on May 2 will feature Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. The event, which will benefit the MBF’s summer intern program, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Continental Ballroom in the Peabody Hotel, 149 Union Ave. Tickets are $75. Later that day, the Memphis Bar will host a public forum featuring Stevenson and former TBA President Jim Emison as panelists. The event, scheduled from 1:45 - 5:15 p.m., is free but tickets are limited. Tickets for both events may be ordered via email.

The Palmersville Historical Society will honor the 50-year legal career of retired Judge Ben H. Cantrell on April 29 at the Old Baptist Church/Masonic Lodge in Palmersville. Cantrell retired April 1 after serving for seven years as a trial judge on the Chancery bench in Davidson County and for 23 years as an appellate judge on the Middle Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals. For the past four years, he served as a senior judge for the Tennessee Supreme Court. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Tapas for Justice, an event to benefit Justice For Our Neighbors, is planned for April 21, 5:30 p.m., at Bone McAllester Norton, 511 Union Ave. Suite #1600 in Nashville. Contributions may be given online to RSVP. The cost is $100 to host, $200 per couple and a $50 suggested contribution to attend.
