The Knoxville Bar Association, attorneys and current and former Knox County judges will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Knox County Fourth Circuit Court on Sept. 20 at Calhoun’s on the River. The event, beginning at 11:30 a.m., will include a special recognition of Judge William Swann, who has served as the court’s presiding judge for 32 years. A new exhibit, Courting Nashville: The History of Our City’s Legal Profession, will open Wednesday at the Nashville Public Library. The exhibit depicts the rich history of Nashville’s legal profession, beginning with the Cumberland Compact in 1780 and continuing to present day. Registration is now open for the TBA Academy, which offers an exciting opportunity for Tennessee attorneys to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and network with some of the nation’s leading appellate practitioners. The 2016 TBA Academy will take place Nov. 28-30 in Washington, D.C., at The Hay Adams Hotel. Participating attorneys will be sworn in before the court in a private ceremony on Nov. 29. David Williams II, athletics director and vice chancellor for athletics and university affairs at Vanderbilt University, will share his perspective on the Southeast Conference (SEC) Aug. 30 from 1-3 p.m. at the Williamson County Public Library in Franklin. Williams, who has represented the SEC in negotiations over television contracts and currently chairs an infractions appeals committee for the NCAA, holds a master of business administration and law degree from the University of Detroit as well as a master of laws in taxation from New York University.

Just City, an organization that provides financial, legal and administrative services to those seeking expungements, will host its first annual Plunge to Expunge dunk tank fundraiser tomorrow from 4-7 p.m. at Memphis Made Brewing Co., 768 South Cooper. This year’s dunk tank target is Just City board member and University of Memphis law professor Daniel Kiel, who teaches constitutional, civil rights and educational law.
