The Fred D. Gray Institute for Law, Justice and Society at Lipscomb University will host a free legal clinic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Schrader Lane Church of Christ, 1234 Schrader Lane in Nashville, and attorneys are needed to volunteer. Those who are available should contact Randy Spivey.

The TBA Young Lawyers Division is seeking volunteers for upcoming expungement clinics in Memphis and Henry County. The clinic in Memphis will be held on July 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bloomfield Full Gospel Baptist Church, located at 123 South Parkway West. The second clinic will be on Aug. 12 at the Henry County Courthouse, 101 E Washington Street in Paris, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in volunteering should contact Amber Floyd at (901) 537-1054.

Tomorrow, June 30, is the deadline for submissions to the 2017 American Bar Association Law Day Awards. The awards highlight the best programs that promote public understanding of law and integrate this year’s theme, “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy.” Categories include best student/classroom program, best public/community program and best interpretation of the theme. The Republican National Committee will hold its annual summer meeting in Nashville the year, the Nashville Post reports. The event will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel Aug. 22 - 25, and will welcome members, staff and party leadership. Keynote speakers have not yet been announced, but similar events this year have hosted big names, such as U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.

The Knoxville Bar Association will host a ceremony to unveil the portraits of Chancellor Daryl Fansler, Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz, Circuit Court Judges Wheeler Rosenbalm and Dale Workman and Fourth Circuit Court Judge Bill Swann at 2 p.m. on July 12 in the Atrium of the City-County Building. The portraits were done by Knoxville photographer Rachel Towers Brooks.

CASA Monroe will host the 5th Annual Muscadine Balloon Fiesta benefit at Tsali Notch Vineyard. The event will feature balloon rides, live music, food, games and more and all proceeds will support the organization. The two-day Fiesta runs on Sept. 2 and 3, from 2 to 10 p.m. at 140 Harrison Road, Madisonville. VIP packages are available. Tickets can be found at the Muscadine Festival website.

A free legal advice clinic, hosted by the Lipscomb University Institute for Law, Justice and Society, will be held at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville on June 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This will be an advice-only clinic and informational materials with frequently asked questions will be provided. The Nashville School of Law will honor three leaders in the legal community at its annual Recognition Dinner Friday evening: Mary Frances Rudy, Larry R. Williams and Hon. Robert E. Corlew III. Rudy is the founder of Rudy Title and Escrow, which employs over 30 people and has closed over 45,000 real estate transactions. Williams is the president of the Law Office of Larry R. Williams, an instructor at NSL for 22 years and a former member of the board of directors of the Nashville Bar Association. Corlew, who served on the NSL faculty for 15 years, retired from the bench in 2014 after 30 years in the judiciary.

The Tennessee Youth Courts’ “Giving Day” is June 15. Tennessee Youth Courts supports youth courts across the state, which allow teen volunteers to decide sentencing for other teens who have admitted to committing low-level offenses. Volunteers learn about court procedures, sentencing options, trial techniques, structure of the justice system, the meaning of justice and relationships between rights and responsibilities. Donations to Tennessee Youth Courts go towards informing and educating young people about the role of law in our democracy and about their role as active citizens.
