The deadline is approaching to submit applications for the 2018-2019 Young Lawyers Division board. All non-elected board positions are currently available. To be eligible one must be a TBA member, admitted to practice within the past five years and/or be younger than the age 36 on June 2018. Applicants must also be able and willing to attend all five YLD meetings for the bar year. Applications are to be submitted via the TBA website and are due by March 31.

Fourteen teams will compete in the TBA YLD's 2018 Tennessee State High School Mock Trial Competition, which will take place March 23-24 in Nashville. This year’s qualifying squads are Unicoi High School of Erwin, Jefferson County High School of Dandridge, Chattanooga Southeast Tennessee Home Education Association of Chattanooga, McCallie School of Chattanooga, Signal Mountain High School of Signal Mountain, Jackson Homeschool of Jackson, Beech High School of Hendersonville, Montgomery Bell Academy of Nashville, Harpeth Hall of Nashville, Springfield High School of Springfield, Agathos Classical School of Columbia, Franklin High School of Franklin, Memphis University School of Memphis, and St. Mary’s Episcopal School of Memphis.

Vanderbilt Law School is hosting a panel discussion on how to make environmental regulations more palatable to conservatives. The hour-long symposium will begin at noon on Monday in Flynn Auditorium. It is being hosted by Vanderbilt's Environmental Law and Policy Annual Review, the Energy and Environment Law Society and the Energy, Environment and Land Use Program. It is free and open to the public.

The 12th Judicial District Bar Association will host an awards dinner on May 4, which will include a first-of-its-kind award presented in honor of Zach Kelly. Kelly will be the first recipient of the Edwin Z. Kelly Award, created to embody someone in the legal community who “continues to persevere each day regardless of the obstacles encountered.” The event will be held at Craven’s Hall at Sewanee, and RSVP is required before April 16. The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will host a luncheon to kickoff its annual Campaign for Equal Justice, chaired by Scott Hickman of Sherrard Roe Voigt and Harbison. The event will feature keynote speaker William C. Koch Jr., dean of the Nashville School of Law. The campaign, now in its 31st year, has a fundraising goal of $826,000 for 2018. The luncheon will be held on March 7 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Nashville City Club, 201 4th Ave N in Nashville. Those who wish to attend should RSVP to Jonathan Houghton by Monday, March 5.

The Community Legal Center (CLC) in Memphis will host a bar trivia night in support of its organization March 28. Called “Quiz for a Cause,” the event will be held at Ghost River Brewing Co. from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. All proceeds will benefit the CLC.

The TBA's Young Lawyers Division is seeking volunteers for a Wills for Heroes Clinic scheduled for March 3 in Lewisburg. The clinic, which will provide wills and other end-of-life documents to first responders, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Law Office of David McKenzie, 205 West Commerce Street.
