The Chattanooga Bar Association will host its annual meeting at noon on Jan. 23 at The Read House, 107 W MLK Blvd. The event will include a luncheon, presentation of awards, vote on bylaw changes and the swearing-in of the 2019 Board of Governors president. The Chattanooga Legal Diversity Consortium (CLDC) is again sponsoring a Minority Clerkship Program (MCP) for Summer 2019. This is a competitive summer program for rising second-year law students intended to help advance the CLDC’s goal of increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the Chattanooga legal community. Law firms participating may include Baker Donelson, Chambliss, Husch Blackwell, and Miller & Martin, while in-house legal departments and government agencies may include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, the City of Chattanooga, Electric Power Board, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and Unum. Interested students should submit a cover letter, resume and transcript (if available) to Megan Hagerty by Jan. 25.

Governor-elect Bill Lee has announced the schedule for his inauguration next month, The Nashville Post reports. The events will mostly be held on Jan. 19, beginning with a worship service at the Ryman Auditorium followed by the inaugural ceremony at Legislative Plaza at 11 a.m. The oath of office will be administered by Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Jeffrey Bivins.

The Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) will present the Marion Griffin-Frances Loring Award to Jocelyn Dan Wurzburg, Memphis’ first professional mediator, at its annual banquet on Jan. 29. The event, which will be held at 409 S. Main Street in Memphis, will also include the passing of the AWA presidential gavel to Laura Deakins of Lewis Thomason. The case for the 2019 Tennessee State High School Mock Trial competition was officially released today. This year's problem, a criminal case, involves the murder of a college student and the arrest of the student's best friend, who was accused of the crime. This year’s competition will be held in Nashville on March 22-23, following regional competitions across Tennessee. Chairing the YLD Mock Trial Committee this year is Rob Sands, with Vice Chair Kati Goodner.
