Matt Mulqueen, vice oresident of the Community Legal Center Board in Memphis, is hosting an event to help celebrate the CLC's 25th anniversary. The "Jam for Justice" will take place on April 20 at B-Side Bar inside Minglewood Hall, 1555 Madison Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. Great local music from John Paul Keith, Grace Askew and Cameron Bethany from Unapologetic. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds benefit the work of the CLC.

The ABA’s Criminal Justice Section will host a series of free programs during its two-day spring meeting in Nashville on April 4 and 5. Sessions on April 4 will focus on Women in Criminal Justice and White Collar Crime. Both will be held at Bass Berry & Sims' offices. Friday programming at the Downtown Nashville Hilton will focus on criminal justice reform and will feature the Hon. Bernice Donald of the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Jeff Bivins, Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton and others. Learn more or register.

The Music City Community Courts program is seeking volunteer attorneys for an Expungement Clinic & Resource Fair, scheduled for April 27 at Magness – Potter Community Center, Salvation Army’s Red Shield East Campus, 611 Stockell St., Nashville, Tennessee 37207. The clinic will have check-in for the pre-registered participants at 9 to 9:30 a.m. and will start at 10:15 a.m. All volunteer attorneys are asked to arrive at 9:30 to 10 a.m. for orientation. An investiture ceremony for Patricia Head Moskal, who was appointed to the Davidson County Chancery Court by Gov. Bill Haslam will be held March 28. The ceremony will take place at the Davidson County Courthouse in Nashville at 3 p.m., with a reception immediately following. Moskal was appointed following the retirement of Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman.

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands has announced a partnership with Belmont University to offer free legal help clinics twice monthly at the Belmont Ministry Center, 2005 12th Avenue South, beginning this weekend. The McHugh Legal Help Clinic at Belmont will take place on the second Saturday of each month, 8:30 to noon, while the Legal Aid Clinic at Belmont will be on the fourth Thursday evening of each month through October, 4:30 to 7 p.m. Volunteer lawyers from the Tennessee Attorney General's office will staff both the clinics, assisted by lawyers in private practice and Belmont College of Law students. The teams for the 2019 Tennessee High School Mock Trial tournament have been named following district competitions held across the state. The 14 teams headed to Nashville for the state finals are Jefferson County High School, Chattanooga/Southeast TN Home Education Association (CSTHEA), Farragut High School, Signal Mountain High School, Beech High School, University School of Nashville, Westminster Academy, St. Mary’s Episcopal School, Harpeth Hall High School, Dobyns- Bennett High School, Coffee County Central High School. Agathos Classical School (Team Gondor), Agathos Classical School (Team Rohan) and Springfield High School. The teams will compete in four rounds over two days, March 22-23, at the Metro Nashville Courthouse. The Young Lawyers Division is still seeking judges, attorneys, law students and legal staff to serve as volunteers for the competition. Sign up here to take part.

Nashville independent bookseller Parnassus Books will host Memphis attorney Bill Haltom during a special event on March 16 at 2 p.m. Haltom is the co-author of Full Court Press: How Pat Summitt, a High School Basketball Player, and a Legal Team Changed the Game, a new book about a legal battle that served as an early test case of groundbreaking Title IX legislation. Haltom wrote the book with Amanda Swanson.

The Memphis Bar Association is now accepting applications for its Summer Law Internship Program, which seeks to develop and nurture an interest in the legal profession among young people from underrepresented groups. Students accepted into the program are placed in a legal environment and work a total of 60 hours over four weeks. Upon completion, they will receive a $500 stipend during a graduation ceremony to be held in early July. Minority high school students who wish to apply must complete the application by 5 p.m. on March 29.
