Law Day 2019 is Wednesday, and there are several events scheduled across Tennessee to celebrate. The Knoxville Bar Association will present "Leadership Lessons for An Angry Age, ‘Crossing the Aisle: How Bipartisanship Brought Tennessee to the 21st Century and Could Save America,’" featuring author and columnist Keel Hunt. The event will be Wednesday 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Hilton Downtown. The Nashville Bar Association plans to celebrate with a luncheon on Friday. The event’s keynote speaker will be Judge Martha Craig “Cissy” Daughtrey, and the Jack Norman Sr. and Liberty Bell awards will be given to Mariah Wooten and Judge Joe P. Binkley Jr., respectively. This year’s theme is Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society

The Knoxville office of the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Law on April 15 and 18 from 10 a.m. to noon each day. Employees, employers, adjusters, attorneys and other workers’ compensation stakeholders are invited to enjoy refreshments and learn about the history of workers’ compensation over its 100-year journey in Tennessee. The bureau also plans to hold celebrations in Kingsport on April 16 and in Chattanooga on April 17. More details here.

Law school deans and students from across the country will be in Knoxville this weekend for the inaugural conference on Leadership Development for Lawyers. Former UT Law Dean Doug Blaze is chairing the event, which will feature keynote addresses from ABA President Robert Carlson and North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, a UT Law grad who is the state's first African-American women to serve in that post. Workshops will address integrating well-being into legal leadership curricula, how to develop effective leadership skills and how to best assess those leadership development efforts.
