The 26th annual "Ode to Otha" event, hosted by Neal & Harwell's Bill Ramsey, will be held virtually on May 30 from 2 to 9 p.m. The event celebrates the birthday of legendary musician Otha Turner while also raising money for Second Harvest Food Bank. The celebration is normally held in Nashville each year, but due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the block party has gone virtual. The Music City Legal Hackers group is hosting a virtual meetup next week to discuss document automation and how it can be used to serve clients in the pandemic and beyond. Thomas Officer, co-founder and design lead at Community.Lawyer, will lead the Zoom presentation on how other legal professionals are using homemade legal automations to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, with one example being a guided interview that helps tenants send letters to their landlord. The meetup will take place on May 27 at 5:30 p.m. with a 40-minute presentation followed by open Q&A and discussion. Get registered online or email Cat Moon with any questions. The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will continue its weekly Facebook Live Q&A Wednesday at noon CDT. LAS attorney Mary Gillum will host this week’s show, which will cover economic impact payments, holds on tax collection and tax payment relief. LAS launched the show earlier this month to answer frequently asked questions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold three legal clinics by phone this week. General legal clinics will be held Tuesday from 3 - 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 - 11 a.m. Then on Wednesday, LAS will hold a clinic specifically for veterans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those needing assistance can call 800-238-1443 during any of these times.

The 2020 TBA Annual Convention, originally scheduled to take place in-person in Knoxville, is being converted to an all virtual, FREE event for members of the TBA. The conference will take place entirely online during the week of June 15. Executive Director Joycelyn Stevenson released a message to members earlier today about the new event. Highlights of the conference include roundtable discussions on issues affecting law firm managing shareholders, in-house counsel and diversity and inclusion in the practice of law, as well as a legislative update from members of the Tennessee General Assembly, law school alumni mixers, and a program celebrating the ratification of the 19th Amendment featuring Elaine Weiss. Members can earn up to eight hours of CLE credit at no cost. The annual Lawyers Luncheon, featuring the passing of the gavel from President Sarah Sheppeard to Michelle Greenway Sellers, will be accessible to registrants and also live streamed on Facebook and YouTube. The TBA YLD is hosting a wellness roundtable on Monday at noon CDT. The event will feature Lindsey O’Donell with the Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program (TLAP) and Erin Watt with Cottonwood, a holistic health center in Tucson, Arizona. The pair will present strategies for alleviating stress and anxiety during this time of uncertainty and improving communication and healthy relationships. They also will lead a group discussion. Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors will host a free seminar titled Advocating for Our Immigrant Neighbors on May 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. CDT via Zoom. JFON attorneys will provide an overview of the U.S. immigration system, including how an individual might change their immigration status and the most frequent obstacles to a status change.
