The Washington County Bar Association will hold its winter social on Dec. 6 from 6-9 p.m. at The Windsor Speakeasy in Downtown Johnson City. Admission of $20 per person includes beverages and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are limited to 50 people due to the size of the venue. RSVP online.

The 10th annual Clio Cloud Conference will take place in Nashville next year! The event, planned for Oct. 10-11, will be held in-person at the Gaylord Opry Resort and Convention Center. A virtual option also will be offered. The conference has been held virtually for the last two years. Discounts will be available to TBA members closer to the event. There are also grant opportunities for those who need financial assistance. The Community Legal Center (CLC) and Memphis Area Legal Services Inc. (MALS) are joining forces to host a hybrid virtual/drive-through wills clinic this month. On Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. CST, attorneys will meet with qualified applicants via Zoom to gather information for the will. Applicants will then attend a drive-through event on Nov. 20 from noon until 2 p.m. CST to sign the wills and have them witnessed and notarized. The clinic is limited to advice only and there is no expectation that CLC, MALS or other volunteer attorneys will follow up with clients. Register for the event here.

The Knoxville Bar Association Annual Membership Meeting will be held Dec. 10 at 8:30 a.m. EST at the Main Assembly Room of the City County Building. Masks will be required. A virtual option will be available for those who wish to participate via Zoom. At the end of the meeting, Jason H. Long will be sworn in as KBA president; Loretta G. Cravens will take office as president-elect; Catherine E. Shuck will be treasurer; and Carlos A. Yunsan will be named secretary. Learn who is running for four seats on the Board of Governors, get information on absentee voting, and see a proposed bylaws change on the event webpage. The Knoxville Bar Association and its Bankruptcy Section, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Suzanne H. Bauknight, will hold a Pro Bono Debt Relief Clinic on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon EDT. The event will take place at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office. Judge Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and other solutions for clients before volunteer lawyers meet with them to discuss their options.

The Memphis Bar Association and its Access to Justice Committee will host a virtual legal advice clinic on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. CDT. Clients must register online at 901legalconnect.org. The virtual clinic is sponsored by Burch, Porter & Johnson in collaboration with the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Office of General Counsel, the Community Legal Center and Memphis Area Legal Services.

Just City Memphis is hosting a reception and art show tomorrow night to feature the work of Mark Loughney, who is currently incarcerated and uses art to humanize his fellow prisoners. The event, “Pyrrhic Defeat: A Visual Study of Mass Incarceration,” will take place at The Commonwealth, 240 Madison Ave., Memphis 38103 from 5-8 p.m. CDT. The show is part of a nearly 700-piece project Loughney started in 2014. See more of his work at @loughneyart on Instagram. The event is free and open to the public. As part of Domestic Violence Prevention Month and Celebrate Pro Bono Month, the Tennessee Access to Justice Commission and partners are offering a free CLE at noon CDT on Thursday. Family Law Basics for Domestic Violence Victims with Limited Means will be facilitated by Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands attorneys Aimee Luna and Rachel Moses. Topics will include filing and amending order of protection petitions, preparing the client for an adversarial hearing, pursuing violations, and contempt. The presentation also will include advocacy tips for representing clients with limited means in divorces, including filing under affidavit of indigency, constructive service by posting, reduced fee mediation, and mediation exceptions for victims of abuse. Knoxville area legal organizations will hold an in-person veterans’ legal advice clinic on Nov. 10 from noon to 2 p.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St. Veterans seeking advice should preregister at 865-637-0484. Lawyers who would like to volunteer can sign up online and view masking requirements. Volunteers may also choose to continue to volunteer by telephone.

The 2021 Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL) Foundation’s Appellate Moot Court Collegiate Challenge will take place in Nashville Nov. 18-20. The foundation is looking for attorney volunteers to grade students’ arguments. No preparation or research is necessary. Rounds will take place on Thursday from 2-3:30 and 3:30-4:30 p.m.; on Friday from 9-10:30 a.m., 10:30-noon; 2:15-4 p.m. and 4-5:30 p.m.; and on Saturday from 9-11 a.m., 1-2:30 p.m., 3:15-4:45 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday rounds will be held in the Cordell Hull Building. Saturday’s sessions will be held in the Old Supreme Court Chambers in the state Capitol. All times are central. Learn more in a post from the Nashville School of Law. To volunteer, email J.D.
