The TBA Criminal Justice Section next week will present a CLE like you’ve never experienced before. The CL(U)E event is an interactive adventure where you and a team of fellow lawyers will solve a murder mystery using information about recent changes to Tennessee criminal law. The event will take place on May 20 at 12:30 p.m. CDT at various landmarks across downtown Nashville, including, the Ryman, Polk’s Tomb, St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows and The Hermitage Hotel. Participants will use clues involving new laws to progress to the next stations. Covered in the event are changes related to DUIs, drug offenses, burglary, homicide and more. Participants can earn up to three hours of CLE credit and prizes will be awarded to the first three winning teams. Participation is limited, so register today before you miss this CLE event.

The TBA's 2022 Federal Practice Forum will take place Wednesday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDT, with presentations tailored to both experienced federal court practitioners and those who are new to federal practice. This program features a panel offering tips and tricks on court practice, plus dual sessions covering intentional equity and cybersecurity. The day wraps up with a session on the Ford Motor Company’s appearance in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in 2021.

The TBA’s annual Court Square Series, designed to provide attorneys with the latest developments in multiple areas of the law, is underway and will be making a stop in Kingsport on May 26. The three-hour event will include an overview of updates in probate and real estate law led by incoming Chancellor Katie Priester, an ethics update from Board of Professional Responsibility Disciplinary Counsel Steve Chrisopher, and a session on self-care from Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program Executive Director Buddy Stockwell. The program will be held in Room 130 of Northeast State at Kingsport Center for Higher Education at noon EDT. The Court Square Series will also be making stops in Murfreesboro on May 17, Cookeville on May 19, Chattanooga on June 3 and Jackson on June 7. Read more on each session on the TBA CLE website.

The American Bar Association will hold its Law Practice Division Spring Meeting in Nashville this week and TBA members are invited to attend two sessions on Thursday for free. Thursday's program, which offers two hours of CLE credit, will focus on practical topics such as managing workload and cybersecurity ethics. The first session “Time, Task, Email & Distraction Management for Lawyers” will begin at 2:30 p.m. CDT followed by “Safeguarding Client Data in Today’s Emerging Hybrid Practice” at 3:45 p.m. Read more about the programs and register for free using the code “TBA.”

The TBA Adoption Law Forum will take place in person next Monday at the Nashville Public Library. The program will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT and offer one dual and three general CLE credits. Topics will include updates on adoption assistance, civil and juvenile court rules, appellate updates and bonding and trauma. Lunch will be provided. The TBA’s 22nd Annual Health Law Primer will take place Oct. 19 from noon to 4:15 p.m. CDT. The primer is designed for newer health law practitioners, providing a general overview of health law as well as tips on identifying and avoiding the pitfalls of real life situations in the heavily regulated health care industry. The in-person program will take place at the downtown Nashville office of Bass Berry & Sims, 150 Third Ave. S., Suite 2800, Nashville 37201. The three-hour event will include a panel of judges who will discuss best practices in family law, an ethics update from Board of Professional Responsibility Disciplinary Counsel Russ Willis, and an attorney wellness session. The program will be held at the Cookeville Higher Education Campus-Cody and will begin at noon CDT. The TBA LGBT Section will host its Annual Forum on June 24 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. CDT. Additionally, the Section will host a booth at the Nashville Pride Festival to answer basic questions and provide attendees with relevant resources.
