The TBA will offer a first-of-its-kind Tennessee Fashion Law CLE on March 31 at the Tennessee Bar Center in Nashville. Topics include protecting fashion brands through copyright, regulations that govern merchandize labeling and disclosure, and employment issues unique to fashion law. The course, scheduled from 1 to 4:15 p.m., is approved for three CLE credits.

Live programs in The Business of Lawyering Series and other ethics credits programs are planned this month in Memphis, Chattanooga, Nashville and Knoxville. The programs offer three hours of dual credit. Sessions include managing yourself and your support staff, engaging clients, ending the client relationship ethically and using social media to advertise. Online courses are also available on accounting basics, the state Department of Revenue and popular financial issues.

Construction lawyers from across the state will meet tomorrow at the TBA Bar Center for a program focused on Licensing Issues for Tennessee Contractors and Owners. The forum is sponsored by the TBA’s Construction Law Section. Topics include licensing for commercial and residential contractors, dealing with the board for licensing and the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act. The forum will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 1p.m., providing 6.25 CLE credits.

The TBA’s Section on Environmental Law will host its Environmental Law Forum on Thursday to share the latest updates to the Solid Waste Rule and updated regulations on recycling. The Waters of the United States rule and implications of the Clean Power Plan will also be discussed. The course offers 3.5 CLE credits and is scheduled from 12:30-4:15 p.m. at the Tennessee Bar Center in Nashville.

Improving health is a popular New Years resolution, but knowing and understanding issues with changing body weight is important for attorneys and their clients. The Evolving Tipping Point of Body Weight: From Malnutrition to Obesity, an online CLE planned for Jan. 27 at noon, will provide useful information and insights on the etiology, risks and effects of changes in weight. The course is approved for one CLE credit.

This 3-hour online CLE program looks at Tennessee’s new For-Profit Benefit Corporation Act that went into effect Jan. 1. A panel of TBA members who drafted the legislation will talk about the Act and offer advice about the use of the Act in organizing Tennessee social enterprise businesses.
