The Tennessee Bar Association and the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute offer the Spanish for Lawyers Series, which focuses on communication skills for lawyers with Spanish-speaking clients. The online CLE courses include Basic Skills and Introductions, The Law Office and Client Interview, and Criminal Law. Each course offers one hour of dual credit.

Statistics show Tennessee has four of the top five counties in the United States for most traffic fatalities by depressant drug-impaired drivers. Judge Thomas Wright and District Attorney General Thomas Kimball address drugged driving, non-prescription drugs and DUI investigations in HIGHway Driving in Tennessee. The webcast, available March 30 and also in archived video, is approved for one credit of CLE.

Topics include the Tennessee Open Records Act, recent changes in laws related to whistle blower protection and ethical considerations for government lawyers. "Developing and sustaining talented designers will take more than boot camps and favorable press mentions," reporter Abby White said. The TBA has taken note of the growing fashion brands in Nashville with its upcoming CLE, Tennessee Fashion Law: Protecting Brands, planned for March 31 at the Tennessee Bar Center.

The Tort and Insurance Forum, a one-day seminar, is planned for March 17 at the Tennessee Bar Center in Nashville. Topics include best practices in federal trial prep, pre-trial advocacy tips and Medicare reimbursement. The forum, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., provides 6.5 CLE credits and lunch will be provided. Tort and Insurance Law Section members are eligible for a discounted price.

Earn two CLE credits in the Tennessee Supreme Court Fantasy Challenge when you predict the outcome of State of Tennessee v. Kenneth McCormick, a case before the state Supreme Court. The defendant was indicted for driving under the influence of an intoxicant (first offense), a Class A misdemeanor. The defendant moved to suppress the evidence against him and the trial court denied the motion, resulting in the defendant being convicted after a jury trial. The audio of the oral argument in this game will be made available after March 11.

Earn two CLE credits when you review and vote on the possible outcome of an environmental law case before the state Supreme Court in the TBA’s Supreme Court Fantasy Challenge. The case, Starlink Logistics Inc. v. ACC, LLC, Et. Al., is an appeal that stems from an environmental dispute involving the appellant, StarLink Logistics, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the appellee ACC, LLC. StarLink appeals the trial court's affirmance of an order of the Tennessee Solid Waste Disposal Control Board, which had adopted a consent order entered into between TDEC and ACC.

Earn two CLE credits when you vote on the possible outcome of a torts and insurance case before the state Supreme Court in the TBA’s Supreme Court Fantasy Challenge. The case, Edward Martin v. Gregory Powers, Et Al., is an appeal in which the holder of an automobile liability insurance policy brought suit to recover for injuries sustained after being struck by a driver in a rental vehicle. The policy holder also sought coverage under the uninsured motorist coverage provision of his policy. Read the briefs, listen to oral arguments (available March 1) and then vote on how you think the court — or each individual justice — will rule.
