A number of CLE programs on current tax law issues are now available as online video. Programming includes sessions on the Tennessee Sales and Use Tax, including a discussion of technologies that impact tax policy; repeal of the Hall Income Tax and update on the Tennessee Tax Regulation Project; tax deferred exchanges under Section 1031 of the tax code; and proposed regulations under Section 385 dealing with inversions. The 2016 Ethics Roadshow kicks off next week with stops in Memphis on Dec. 6 and in Nashville on Dec. 7. Make plans to join attend one of these two cities or any of the other four cities on this year’s tour. Memphis lawyer Brian Faughnan with Lewis Thomason is back for his 12th year. In honor of that milestone, this year’s tour will focus on the 12 most important developments impacting ethics and lawyering in 2016. Here's a full schedule of dates and locations.

In what has become a holiday tradition, the TBA again will offer its CLE Blast on Dec. 27-30 at the Tennessee Bar Center in Nashville. The four-day program offers a total of 22 hours of credit but you can attend as much or as little as you need. Sessions will run from 7 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. each day. Three courses covering a variety of topics will be offered in each time slot. Both general and dual credit will be available. RSVP online for any or all of the days.

The TBA Criminal Law Forum will take place Dec. 9 at the Bar Center in Nashville. This year’s forum will focus on digital forensics with sessions on computer forensics data recovery;  processes and procedures used to collect cell phone evidence; recent case law on the issue; and ethical considerations when using digital forensic evidence. New rules from the EEOC impacting what incentive employers may offer to employees who provide medical information as part of a wellness program under the Americans with Disabilities Act take effect Jan. 1. The second installment in the TBA’s ongoing Modern Law Practice CLE Series is planned for Dec. 2 as both an in-person and webcast program. During the three-hour session, speakers will examine the ways legal service management companies -- including those outsourcing work and those providing temporary staff -- are expanding and affecting the modern law practice. The course will be offered at the Bar Center in Nashville and as a live video stream.

The TBA will host its annual Juvenile Law CLE on Dec. 1 at the Tennessee Bar Center in Nashville. Speakers will include representatives from Vanderbilt’s Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody and the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS). Sessions will cover case law updates, immigration issues in juvenile court, and using medical evidence in severe abuse cases. A panel on DCS administrative hearings and policies and a session on ethical issues in juvenile courts will round out the day. Learn more or register online.

The TBA will hold a CLE on administrative law Nov. 18 at the Tennessee Bar Center in Nashville. Speakers will cover a wide range of topics including updates on Sunshine Laws, state contracts and real property issues such as easements, surveys, title searches and opinions, contracts, memorandums of understanding, leases and negotiations. A final panel will focus on ethics in the context of work/life balance.

On Nov. 17, the TBA will present a three-hour CLE on online dispute resolution. The sessions will cover the new world of online dispute resolution, which allows users with civil disputes to forgo court proceedings and instead use web-based technologies to resolve conflicts.
