The TBA’s Tort & Insurance Section will hold a webcast on Best Practices in Premises Liability next month. The program, set for Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CST, will focus on Tennessee and federal court opinions. While many equate premises liability with “slip, dip and trip" accident claims, case law on the issue goes beyond this stereotype. Join Holland Matthews with The Matthews Firm in Columbia and Parke Morris with Parke Morris & Associates in Memphis to learn more about these cases.

Make plans now to attend the Appellate Section’s one-hour webcast “The Ins and Outs and Do’s and Don’ts of Appellate Work” on Nov. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. CST. The program will feature a panel of judges who will offer tips about practicing in appellate court, including how to develop and present persuasive arguments, the do's and don'ts of oral arguments, characteristics of a strong brief, and missteps to avoid. Judges confirmed include Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Bivins, Court of Appeals judges Kristi Davis and W. Neal McBrayer and Court of Criminal Appeals Judge John Campbell.

The TBA Law Tech Lunch & Learn Series will hit the road this winter across Tennessee with a kick off session in Knoxville on Dec. 15 from noon to 2:15 p.m. EST at Lewis Thomason, 620 Market St., 5th Floor, Knoxville 37902. The program will feature discussions and presentations on the various types of cybersecurity attacks and how to respond to ransomware and data breaches. Sessions will cover how to effectively solicit raises and project assignments, receive credit for work done, and make partner. A second session will explore the barriers impacting diverse women in the legal industry and best practices for overcoming those challenges. And for those on the back end of their career, the program will wrap up with a session on the financial aspects of preparing for retirement and maintaining work-life balance while transitioning to retirement.
