This week the Tennessee Bar Association will be in Cookeville, offering three hours of dual CLE that will focus on law firm and law practice succession planning. The program will be held at the Cookeville Higher Education Campus on Oct. 13.

A webcast presentation by Angelia Nystrom and Victoria Tillman will provide attorneys with a fundamental understanding of estate planning and probate in Tennessee. The sessions will include an overview of basic estate planning documents and strategies, including advance directives, wills, revocable living trusts, communication, confidentiality and much more. On Oct. 24, this year’s Court Square CLE will be held at First Farmers Bank in Columbia. Tim Takacs will cover succession planning in all stages: opening your practice, transitioning to another firm, scaling back your practice due to disability or health, retiring, or closing your practice.

A series of risk management programs are being offered across the state. Programs will cover client documentation, disaster recovery, fees, conflicts and file retention. Sessions will be offered in Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville.

On Oct. 24, this year’s Court Square CLE in Jackson will be held at the Chamber of Commerce. Chuck Holliday will address why you should be videotaping depositions in “small” cases and the technical tips you need to do it. Judge Allen Phillips and Judge Amber Luttrell will participate in a panel discussion, offering trial practice tips before the Court of Workers’ Compensation Claims. Finally, Marty Phillips will discuss appellate advocacy.

On Oct. 18, this year’s Court Square will be held at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville. Featured speaker Tim Takacs is an elder law expert and will provide attendees with information about succession planning for lawyers at all career stages.

On Oct. 13, this year’s Court Square CLE in Cookeville will be held at the Higher Education Campus. Tim Takacs will focus on the importance of succession planning for your law firm or law practice. Other topics covered will be law practice management, best practices, client communication and life planning.

On Sept. 22, TBA CLE will bring the Court Square Series to the Farms Golf Club in Dyersburg. Public Defender Sean Day will provide case law updates and review statutory law governing criminal cases. Bankruptcy Trustee Molly Williams will provide guidance on real property issues in bankruptcy cases. The final session will be a presentation on appellate practice with attorneys Jennifer Vallor Ivy and Samuel Ivy.

The TBA will conduct an Inventor Legal & Business Boot Camp on Sept. 20 in Knoxville to educate all attendees about the legal and business aspects of Intellectual Property and its role in starting a business. This program is designed for those who create or own intellectual property (inventors, makers, artists, licensing organizations, etc.) and the attorneys who represent them.
