This program has been postponed due to ongoing concerns about gathering in person. It will be rescheduled when it is safe to do so. The TBA’s annual Animal Law Forum will take place April 9, 2021, at the Nashville Zoo and will provide updates on trends and advancements in animal law. The zoo’s president and chief executive officer will be on hand to discuss conservation efforts, laws affecting procurement, care for zoo animals and more. Five other speakers will cover topics such as ethical considerations for animals and the law, legislative updates and laws governing farm animals. Programming will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT. Zoo admission, breakfast and lunch are included.

The TBA’s 20th annual Health Law Primer and 32nd annual Health Law Forum will be held virtually via live webcast in October. The TBA Real Estate Law Section in conjunction with the Tennessee Land Title Association will host the 2020 Hot Topics Forum on Nov. 13. The forum, now being offered exclusively as a live virtual program, will run from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. CDT. Attendees will hear presentations on case law updates, legislative updates, HOAs, commercial real estate, force majeure, multi-jurisdictional matters and the unauthorized practice of the law.

The Family Law section will host a live virtual CLE on Sept. 11 from noon until 2 p.m. CDT to discuss practicing family law during a pandemic. The 2020 TBA Creditors Practice Forum will be offered virtually via live webcast on Sept. 30, from 1-4 p.m. CDT. The program will begin with a general sessions court panel featuring Davidson County Judge Lynda Jones and Shelby County Judge Phyllis Gardner. The second session will focus on the future of collections and bankruptcy. The program will wrap up with a session focused on legal technology, including updates about Zoom, Slack and other tools. The TBA is offering the one-hour webcast “Understanding and Confronting Unconscious Bias” on Aug. 28 from noon to 1 p.m. CDT. Nashville attorney Luther Wright with Ogletree Deakins will talk about avoiding bias in the decision-making process and how to respond to allegations of bias from clients or other third parties. The program is designed to help participants better understand implicit bias and microaggressions, and provide tools to improve cross-cultural communication on both the individual and organizational level.
