The TBA announced today that Daniel Street, county attorney for Sullivan County, has been selected as the Week 2 CLE Blast prize winner! The Year End Blast is underway and to make this season a little merrier, the TBA is offering weekly prizes and one overall prize at the end of the month thanks to presenting sponsor Clio. The Juvenile and Children's Law section virtual program Homeboy: An Inside Perspective of a Youth's Transition Through the System is now available to view online. During the program, Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Tennessee Jawara Griffin speaks on his journey through the juvenile system and his belief that every human being has the right to competent and effective legal representation, regardless of their socio-economic status.

The TBA’s Criminal Law Forum 2020 will take place virtually this Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CST via Zoom. Attendees will hear presentations from Kirsten Shields of Legility and Christopher Slobogin of the Vanderbilt University Law School on topics designed to keep lawyers at the forefront of the latest developments in the criminal law field. The TBA’s annual Ethics Road Homeshow 2020 is happening tomorrow! We can’t take the show “on the road” this year so we are bringing the popular ethics tradition with Memphis lawyer Brian Faughnan directly to you. The live virtual program will focus on “Ethics Lessons from the Pandemic,” simultaneously looking at the years 1918 and 1968 and the challenges faced by attorneys during those difficult times. Intellectual Property Law Forum: IP 101 is intended for those who have no experience with intellectual property law or who want to learn more about a certain type of IP. Presenters will review the three types of intellectual property for which protection can be sought: patents, trademarks and copyrights. The forum will culminate with a discussion of IP licensing agreements that may include one, two, or all three of these types of IP. The live virtual forum will take place tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. CST. Please register prior to 10 a.m. CST tomorrow to receive the Zoom email invitation in time.

The TBA Animal Law Section will present a free one-hour program on Monday from noon to 1 p.m. CST about the legal battle to free Nosey — an elephant rescued from a traveling circus after decades of abuse. The lawyers who fought for Nosey’s placement at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald will recount the story of the legal fight to save her, and discuss legal and ethical issues relating to elephants and other wild animals in captivity. An optional Q&A session will follow the program. One hour of CLE credit is available for a fee of $45. Register here.

The TBA’s Dispute Resolution Section has produced a three-part series covering non-monetary issues that arise in family law disputes, business and commercial disputes and employment disputes. Coming up tomorrow from 1 to 2 p.m. CST, don’t miss Non-Monetary Issues in Family Law Disputes, which will walk attendees through a fact scenario, highlighting litigation tactics and strategy and discussing the process of negotiating a resolution. Then, on Dec. 14 from noon until 1 p.m. CST, catch Non-Monetary Issues in Employment Disputes, which will talk about settlement blockers and how a mediator can be prepared to handle them. Finally, Non-Monetary Issues in Business and Commercial Disputes is now available online and covers strategies a mediator could use to give a recalcitrant party closure. All three courses are virtual and worth one hour each of CLE and Continuing Mediation Education (CME) credit.
