Join your colleagues at the end of the month for a “crash course” on depositions and e-discovery. This year’s topics include deposition prep and strategy, the do's and don'ts of depositions and written discovery, and a panel discussion about e-discovery law and technology. The program, set for April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CDT, is being produced by Memphis lawyer Aurelia McBride with Glankler Brown.

Understanding and Confronting Unconscious Bias 2.0 is designed to help lawyers avoid bias in the decision-making process and better respond to allegations of bias from clients or third parties. The one-hour program will utilize exercises that help reveal biases, help participants better understand microaggressions, and provide tools for improving cross-cultural communication at the organizational and personal levels. The TBA’s Disability Law Section will host a virtual roundtable-style CLE program on April 23 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Moderated by section executive council member Chris George of the firm George & George, the program will feature Chief Administrative Law Judge Paul M. Stimson and Hearing Office Director Terry Angle from the Memphis Office of Hearings Operations. They will discuss best practices and technological updates for social security disability hearings during the pandemic. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions throughout the panel and time will be allotted near the end of the session for questions about general daily practice. The TBA’s Tax Law Section will launch the first installment of its CLE series tomorrow from noon until 1 p.m. CDT. What’s New with the IRS? An update on new IRS programs and procedures in a Post-2020 World will cover a variety of IRS initiatives impacting everything from new installment agreement procedures for qualified taxpayers, to new e-filing procedures for forms 2848 and 2019-specific tax relief to avoid liens for qualified taxpayers. The TBA Intellectual Property Section is presenting a two-day virtual program for its 2021 Annual Forum. “Taking IP Law Back to the Future” launches on April 15 with sessions on saving your patent from Section 101, conflicting local patent rules and maintaining professionalism and ethics in a post-COVID practice. Day two kicks off on April 22 with sessions on copyright protection for utilitarian works, trademark updates for 2021 and non-fungible crypto tokens. Local government practice is an ever-changing arena with a unique blend of constitutional, statutory and case law.
