Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush vowed Tuesday to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood if elected to the White House, but drew immediate fire from Democrats for adding, "I'm not sure we need half a billion dollars for women's health issues." Bush and fellow Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Mark Rubio spoke at a meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville. WRCB has more.

Nashville’s District Attorney is investigating an anonymous robocall that characterized mayoral candidate David Fox as an extreme rightwing Republican. The message does not disclose who paid for it, a potential violation of federal law. Although Fox’s campaign has asked that whoever is responsible be charged with a crime, even if the DA finds wrongdoing, it’s possible the responsible party could be turned over to the state’s Registry of Election Finance, which is primarily restricted to issuing fines. Nearly 60 donations of a million dollars or more accounted for about a third of the more than $380 million brought in so far for the 2016 presidential election, according to an Associated Press analysis of fundraising reports filed with federal regulators through Friday. Donors who gave at least $100,000 account for about half of all donations so far to candidates' presidential committees and the super PACs that support them. That concentration of money from a small group of wealthy donors builds on a trend that began in 2012, the first presidential contest after a series of court rulings and regulatory steps that created the super PAC. A town hall for liberal activists featuring two Democratic presidential candidates was interrupted by dozens of demonstrators on Saturday who shouted down the contenders and demanded they address criminal justice issues and police brutality. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and Vermont Sen. Four Republican presidential contenders have announced plans to visit Middle Tennessee. Former Gov. Jeb Bush will attend a high-price reception in Brentwood on Aug. 4, while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is slated to speak in Nashville at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant this Wednesday. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and controversial businessman Donald Trump also recently announced August stops in Middle Tennessee, the Tennessean reports.

A law firm filed a federal lawsuit yesterday challenging Tennessee campaign finance laws on behalf of Williamson Strong, which was fined $5,000 for failure to register as a political action committee and failure to disclose expenditures. The lawsuit is separate, but related to, the group's appeal of the state's Registry of Election Finance ruling in May. The Tennessean has more.

Former Congressman Zach Wamp will be leading Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign efforts in Tennessee, Nooga.com reports. Rubio tweeted the news yesterday. Wamp represented Tennessee’s Third Congressional District for 16 years before an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2010.
