Ten candidates — including two attorneys — have qualified to seek the Tennessee House of Representatives District 95 seat held by Mark Lovell until he resigned amid accusations of sexual misconduct, The Commercial Appeal reports. The heavily Republican district includes parts of Collierville, Germantown and Eads. Voters there will choose Lovell's replacement in a special primary election April 27 and special general election June 15.

Former Tennessee Republican Party Chairmen Chris Devaney and Bob Davis are lobbying state legislators to advocate for term limits for U.S. Congrees, Knoxnews reports. A resolution currently in the legislature would declare Tennessee’s support for a national constitutional convention to create an amendment to impose term limits. The proposed limits are three two-year terms for U.S. House representatives and two six-year terms for U.S. senators.

Knoxville businessman and former Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd announced his bid for the Republican nomination for governor today, the Nashville Post reports. Boyd has already named several seasoned Republican political operatives as staff. Sen. Mark Green announced his candidacy in January, and other GOP politicians are expected to also join the race.

A coalition of law professors from across the country filed a misconduct claim against White House counselor Kellyanne Conway seeking her disbarment, Business Insider reports. The group of 15 professors claim Conway has engaged in conduct “involving dishonesty, fraud, decit or misrepresentation.”

Former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announced his plans yesterday to run for governor of Tennessee, the Tennessean reports. House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh, D-Ripley, stopped short of declaring a formal intention to challenge Dean in a Democratic primary, but confirmed he is “leaning toward running.”

Former Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday formally announced a new effort aimed at redrawing state districting maps. After the 2008 election, Republicans poured money into state legislative races, gaining control of redistricting that took place after the 2010 census. During Obama's presidency, Democrats lost more than 1,030 seats in statehouses, governor's mansions and Congress. The new organization, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, will devote legal and political resources to reapportionment, which will happen after the 2020 census. WRCB-TV has more from the Associated Press.

Tennessee Sen. Mark Green, R-Clarksville, has filed paperwork indicating he will seek the governor’s office in 2018. He is the first to formally file for the state’s highest office, though other Republicans are expected to join the race, the Tennessean reports. Green is the CEO of AlignMD, an emergency room management company. Yesterday, he filed 10 bills for consideration in the new legislative session, including one that would eliminate the state privilege tax paid by doctors and other professionals.

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to nominate restaurant chain executive Andy Puzder to be Labor Secretary, the Tennessean reports. Puzder, CEO of CKE Restaurants, which owns fast food restaurants Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, worked as a Trump campaign adviser and is a major critic of what he calls unnecessary federal regulations. A second story highlights five things to know about Puzder, who worked as a corporate lawyer before making his name as a turnaround specialist. Puzder recently relocated to the Nashville area and is in the process of moving the company’s headquarters to Williamson County.

Former U.S. Attorney General and now Belmont College of Law Dean Alberto Gonzales was seen at Trump Tower this afternoon, the Tennessean reports. According to reporters on the scene, Gonzales got on an elevator with Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s former campaign manager.

Two Tennessee elected officials were to meet with President-elect Donald Trump today, Knoxnews reports. U.S. Sen. Bob Corker and Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn were said to be traveling to Trump Tower for meetings. Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has been rumored to be a prospect for secretary of state. But he said earlier this month that he believes someone else is more likely to get the job. Blackburn, a member of the Trump transition team’s Executive Committee, said she was looking forward to discussing “a broad range of policy issues, the transition, and to continue helping him choose the best people for his administration.”
