Former state representative George Fraley died yesterday (Aug. 23) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, two days after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 85. Fraley served as a county commissioner and county executive in Franklin County before joining the Tennessee House of Representatives, where he served until 2010. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 1st Ave. NW, Winchester. Funeral services will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at Winchester Church of Christ, 623 Colby Rd. The Winchester Herald Chronicle has more.

A memorial service for Nashville lawyer Dale M. Quillen will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery Chapel on McCrory Lane. On Oct. 8, family and friends will assemble at the Zion Cemetery in Baileyton to spread ashes over the graves of his father, mother and sister, then in March, a former Marine Corps colleague will spread ashes over the beaches at Guam and Iwo Jima. Quillen, 91, died Aug. 13. He is survived by his son Ken Quillen, also an attorney in Nashville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Marines Helping Marines, 512 Thornton Court, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29579. The Tennessean has more.

The family and friends of Johnson City attorney Janie Lindamood will honor her memory on Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Barn at Boone Falls, 1770 Old Gray Station Rd., the Washington County Bar Association announced today. Visitors are asked to use the entrance at 110 Kim Dr. The celebration will be casual and include live entertainment, food and beverages. Lindamood died Aug. 13 at the age of 65. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coalition for Kids in Johnson City, which is part of the GoFund Me account set up in her name.

Nashville lawyer Noel Francis Stahl died Aug. 11 at the age of 68. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and its law school, Stahl served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and Judge Advocate General office from 1973-1977. He worked at Miller & Martin and Butler Snow, practicing in the areas of product liability and medical professional liability law, and retired in 2015. A celebration of life will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Alive Hospice, Nashville Youth Hockey League, St. Thomas Health Foundation, Thistle Farms or a charity of the donor’s choice. Johnson City attorney Janie Lindamood died Aug. 13 at the age of 65. She is being remembered by colleagues as a fierce advocate for the children she represented in court as a juvenile and family law attorney and as a generous mentor to young lawyers. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Lindamood worked as a hairstylist, as a florist and in healthcare administration. She earned her law degree in 1996 from the Oklahoma City University Law School. The family is planning a celebration of life next month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coalition for Kids in Johnson City, which is part of the GoFund Me account set up in her name. Well-known Nashville attorney Dale Quillen died Saturday (Aug. 13), the Tennessean reports. He was 91. Quillen served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in Guam and Iwo Jima, and later earned his law degree from the YMCA Night Law School. He was licensed to practice law in 1956 and practiced for more than 60 years. Davidson County General Sessions Judge William E. "Bill" Higgins worked for Quillen's firm after he graduated from law school and said, “Dale Quillen graciously welcomed me into his law office at 46th and Charlotte Avenue in West Nashville. I learned from him, a fine legal scholar, dedication to my clients and to the law. He will not only be fondly remembered by me, but also by the community for his wit, tenacity, and legal acumen." Sevierville lawyer Ross Gray died Saturday (Aug. 13) at the age of 42. Ross graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and earned his law degree from the University of Memphis. Gray built his own law firm, Gray & Associates. He also hosted a Saturday morning radio program called The Legal Line, through which he educated local listeners about the judicial system. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. tomorrow at Atchley’s Funeral Home in Sevierville. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sevierville First United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Gray’s hometown of Vance, Alabama, on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations to help the Gray family may be made at any Sevier County Bank branch.

Knoxville trial lawyer Hugh Whitford Morgan, 79, died Wednesday (Aug. 10) while on a hike. A graduate of West Point, Morgan served six years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as an aviator and later many years in the Tennessee National Guard. After leaving the army, he attended the University of Tennessee College of Law and earned his degree in 1967. Morgan was a partner at Kramer Rayson. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Rose Mortuary, 6200 Kingston Pike in Knoxville. A celebration of life will be planned for the fall. Memorial gifts may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home, Boy Scouts of America and Friends of the Smokies.

Nashville lawyer and TBA senior counselor Mary Frances Lyle died Saturday (Aug. 6). She was 80. A 1979 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, Lyle began her career lobbying the state legislature on behalf of the Nashville Women’s Political Caucus. During the 25 years she worked with the caucus, she helped draft and pass some of the most important legislation affecting women in Tennessee, including changes in alimony, maternity leave, sexual harassment and domestic violence law. Lyle also was a co-founder of the Lawyers Association for Women (LAW), Peace to End Abuse through Counseling and Education (PEACE) and Women in Business Inc. For many years Lyle operated her own family law practice but later joined Corley Henard Lyle Levy & Langford. Visitation will take place Friday from 1-6 p.m. at Horner-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Brentwood and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville. A time of remembrance with friends and colleagues will follow at 10 a.m. with the funeral service set for 11 a.m. Interment will be at Harpeth Hills Cemetery in Nashville. Jane Eskind, the first woman in Tennessee to win a statewide election, died today (Aug. 4). She was 83. Eskind won a seat on the Public Service Commission in 1980. She made her first bid for public office in 1978, winning the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Howard Baker Jr., but lost to Baker in the general election. In 1994, Eskind became the first woman to chair the Tennessee Democratic Party. WSMV has more.
